Members will be pleased to learn that on April 22nd - subject to the right weather conditions (dry and little wind) - we will be taking measures to prevent "Rook damage" in the future.
However, to carry out this work efficiently, it will be necessary to close the course until 10.00am.
Please remember Monday 28th April sees us commence our first greens renovation of the year, bear with us the long term benefits are worth a week's disruption.
Thank you in advance for your understanding.

It is with very deep regret that we have to announce the death of Arthur Jacomb OBE. Arthur passed away on April 15th, he was President of Hockley Golf Club from 1988 - 2006 and will be sadly missed. Our thoughts are with Joan and his family. The funeral arrangements will be announced in due course.
We had an exciting finale to our Masters sweepstake. To view the overall results, please click here.
Day one to four results are on the notice board in the clubhouse. I think the main highlight of The Masters was the Hockley GC Centenary mention by Peter Allis on Sunday evening, this set Twitter and Facebook buzzing for a while.
We are now unpacked in the shop and just need to sort out the workshop and office,we are very grateful to the craftsmanship of Derek Noyce for the shelving and work bench he has already created.
Some of you have commented that we no longer sell cold drinks and sweets, we DO, but just in a smaller fridge. There wasn't room for our large Coca Cola fridge, so we have gone for the more streamlined look. If there is any product you cannot locate, please ask any one of us for assistance.
The first medal of the season was played on Saturday The Tank Cup and Wells Trophy. The winner of The Tank Cup was Peter Robbins with a net 66 and the Wells Trophy was won by Colin Johnson with a Nett 70 winning on a countback from Chris Champion and Steve Fennell.
Men v Lee on the Solent
On another glorious Sunday at Hockley, our men's team played Lee on the Solent, and the greensomes result in the morning was 4-3 to Hockley. After lunch it was back out for the 4BBB which resulted in a 5-2 win for Hockley, so they take a 4 match advantage to Lee on the Solent in September.
There were a considerable number of handicap changes, so if you are playing any matches this week please check your handicap on the psi before you play.
Our junior team were triumphant in their first round of the Triangular match at South Winchester GC on Saturday. Ollie Woodyatt and Callum Green represented us for the first time, and both were an asset to the team. Callum had 36 points, and thoroughly enjoyed his match, so much so that he begged his mum to let him play again for us on Monday! The team were leading by 5 points going into the second round played at Hockley this Monday, and despite only having 5 players available to play, our junior team still scored an impressive combined 126 points, with Callum Mackenzie scoring 37 points. The team are only trailing by 22 points to Royal Winchester with 4 games still to play.
Congratulations to Kay Walshe on winning the Ladies April Medal and to Louise Spruce and Sue Gardiner for winning the Ladies Coronation Foursomes, a qualifying event for the Peugeot Coronation foursomes.
Ladies Scratch Team Beat Meon at Meon!
In the first round of the Hezlet Trophy, Hockley ladies won a tough match against Meon 3-2. Janet Cuschieri and Beth Goater fought hard but lost, Janet on the 18th. Chris Quinn won quickly, Jo Russell on the 18th, and our new team member Ellie Gardner won 3 and 2. We would all like to welcome Ellie to Hockley and congratulate her for winning her first match for us, a crucial one! Many thanks also to Judie Lewis and Kay Walshe who kindly offered to caddy for the youngsters instead of playing themselves.
We have a good strong team this year, especially when Helen Bailey recovers from her injury (get better soon Helen!) so we have high hopes for the matches ahead. Watch this space for all of the up to date news of their progress.
