Many of the knockout matches have started, and a number of you have sent me your stories, please read the first from Richard Arrowsmith:
A wonderful foursomes match played this week between Alastair Watson & Scott Couper and Mike Eames & myself. Mike and I are the team without a good set of knees between us, and we played a former club champion and his partner, and during the match we had 6 birdies between us. Alastair and Scott played very well, and were two up with two to play, but they were pegged back by a par and birdie to go to the 19th at which Mike hit his second shot to 4 feet, and we holed for another birdie. Alastair and Scott felt mugged after never being down until the 19th.
This is why we play golf a fantastic game played in a wonderful spirit.
The second from Alan Boucher:
Well the golf season has taken off with a bit of a bang in this year's Candlesticks, with the reigning champs falling at the first hurdle, and being knocked out by an unknown force in the guise of Alan Boucher and Kev Bloomfield. Nick Goater and Jason Cattle were firm favourites to progress to the next round in this one, but didn't realise the battling quality of the pairing they had drawn. Things seemed to be going to plan as Goater and Cattle took a 1 up lead to the 7th tee, but by the time they reached the 12th this had been turned into 3 down and the champs were going out. Their fate was sealed on 14 when Boucher, leaving his partner a near impossible chip from the 15th tee, only had a tap in putt as Bloomfield almost majestically holed his chip to put the underdogs 4 up and dormie, the half was made on 15 and last year's champs were out. Highlights on Sky Sports!
