Many of you will have already noticed the 'Pompey' blue car in the car park. I am very privileged to receive sponsorship from the Winchester Motor Company. Managing Director and Hockley member Mark Mills-Goodlet (pictured right) handing the keys for the Octavia Estate over to me said:
'We are very pleased to sponsor Gary as he is recognised as one of the best club professionals around, and we are also pleased to be associated with Hockley Golf Club which is on course to being one of the best downland golf courses in the country'.
Thank you Mark.

Before Andy left for Merion, we all went out for the evening in Winchester, some I must add stayed out much longer than others!!
Somehow Jack managed to open up at 7am on Saturday morning even after crawling into to bed at 3am, those days are long gone for me.
The picture shows our greenkeeping staff (and Jack) looking very smart before the evening got under way!
Can we kindly remind you NOT to tee off from the 1st tee until the group in front have reached the 1st green please. This will avoid a queue forming on the 2nd tee.
Many thanks
After 52 matches, come rain or shine, mostly rain and not a lot of shine, the final of the Capt/Pro took place in glorious weather.
At the 'slap up meal' of sandwiches and chips, the Captain congratulated all players for reaching the final even though it took a couple of them 2 attempts to get there, and for their donations to the Captains charity.
He also shared his greatest memory seeing Pat Lawson lying flat out with his clubs strapped to his back after falling down a hole at the back of the 13th tee. Along with his most memorable shot in our first match. His approach shot on the 2nd, I told him the line was right of the trees on the bank above the green, he promptly smashed the ball into the sheep pen to which I commented "I didn't mean quite that far right".
The winners with 39 points were two past Captains Steve Moore and Mike Eames, who both played very nicely. I am sure it was all due to the new set of TaylorMade irons Steve recently purchased after a fitting with Chris. Runners Up with 38 points were Rob Wood and Danny Francis.
Triangular - The first leg played at South Winchester on 22 March, saw SW Seniors powering into the lead with an average 34 stableford points for their team of 10 players. A 41 pointer helped them to 316 point compared to Royal Winchester's 287 and our 277. Certainly a challenge for us in the next 2 legs at Royal then at home!
Home Match v Alresford Vets - played on 4 April resulted in a 4:2 defeat for Hockley. Manny Andrusewski played with the Seniors for the first time in the Summer Friendlies series, and it was lovely to welcome back Father Tom McGrath who had previously been a Hockley member for 40 years! The course was in great nick, and thanks also to our catering staff who provided us with a delicious post-match meal!
Seniors please note the closing date of the Jack Everard knockout has been extended to this Sunday, 10 April as there was an odd number, we need an even number as it is a 'pairs' knockout.
14 Ladies played in the medal winner's salver on Sunday, and the winner was Helen Vidal Allen with a nett 74.
Our junior team of Captain Beth Goater, Taylor Archer and Laurie Tennant played the first leg of the Greenjackets competition on Friday, 1 April in sunny, blustery conditions. Despite the three club wind experienced at the top of the course, the team of three pulled off a magnificent 101 to 79 aggregate stableford points win against Southwick Park to take them through to the next round.
Despite having to battle the wind and the ever present course challenges, the six competitors were unable to finish the platter of sandwiches and crisps!! How can that be true?
Well played guys and many thanks for your support, looking forward the next round.
