A busy weekend here at Hockley and perfect weather for our French visitors. What a difference a week makes … the sun cream is out, t-shirts were on and some men exposed their legs and braved shorts.


 

Etretat - Henderson Putter Regained 

Captain Adrian and his 26-person team fought a brilliant match against willing and keen French opposition from our sister club Etretat. Sadly, for the French, the greens were much too fast at stimpmeter 10.2 giving them the 3 putt blues.

Seventy-two people attended the evening dinner of fine wine, food (superbly served by selected Maitres de Tables) and the evening started and finished with home grown musical entertainment. The Captain and his wife Mandy made a magnificent duo victory speech thanking the visitors for their friendship and sporting excellence. The fact that it was a whitewash was not mentioned at all!!

  

Sunday's competition was won by Englishmen Neil Brittain and Phil Ratcliffe with their French inspiration Madame Aline Hopital.

Thanks to all the Hockley staff for brilliant hospitality and the organizing team of Helen -Vidal Allen, Carole Cullen, Paul Mantell, Dave Martin and Doug Peacock.

There was a terrific win for our Gales Hockley team against Broadstone, they won 5-4 but it came down to the deciding match where new member Eddy Edwards won on the 23rd hole.


Men's Long Course Stableford - Saturday, 7 May

Division One winner was Martin Smith with 42 points. 
Runner Up was Ed Player with 41 points, beating Sam Piper on a countback. 

Division Two winner was Josh Merluk with 39 points 
Runner Up was Bill Harrison with 37 points beating Mike Brown on a countback. 


Men's Medal (including Lombard Trophy qualifier) - Sunday 8th May  

The winner of this event will go forward to play at Walton Heath GC with me on 21st June. 

Winner: Andrew Chalke with a nett 72 
Runner Up was Kevin Unsworth with a nett 73, beating Clive Keywood on a countback. 

Unfortunately, the actual winner with a nett 69 had to be disqualified, as although he recorded his score he did not post his scorecard, so we were unable to verify his score and check that the card had been signed. 

Another player was disqualified for not signing his card. 

Can we please ask that you do SIGN your cards, RECORD your score and POST your card under the psi in the changing room. 


We had a very small entry into the Short Course Stableford on Monday and the results are: 

Winner: Steve Hill-Cousins with 42 points, beating Gavin Williams on a countback.


 

Octogenarians Cup - (from Mike Wells) 

Exclusive to our VSOPs age 80 or over, this stableford yellow tees competition (non-qualifier) will be held on 6th June. Sign up on the PSI in the Pro's Shop. See Seniors' notice board for further information!

Stoneham - Congratulations to Seniors' Vice Captain Tony Crawford and team on their away win 4 - 2 against Stoneham last Thursday! The victory begins to balance the 2016 book 

Seniors Notice Board - the new sign-up sheet for June / July "summer friendlies" is now on display. Sign early to avoid disappointment!


 

The 1st round of the Habin Cup played last Thursday was won by Lorraine Cole with a nett 68 

Runner Up Helen Vidal Allen with a nett 72. 


The Ladies Championship and Fuchsia Bowl on Sunday, 12 June is now open for entry on the psi in the changing room.


 

Saturday, 14 May - The Delhi Cup, please note the course is CLOSED until 5.30pm. There will be NO play permitted before the 8am start. 

Sunday, 15 May - Men's Dreadnought Trophy a medal with a handicap allowance of 22, enter on the day in the Pro Shop.

Please note the 2 tee closures on Sunday, 15 for the Beckford Bowl match 9.00 - 9.30am and 1.30 - 2.30pm

Pro Am

Our Pro Am will be held on Friday, 27 May and Hockley members are more than welcome to play, why not invite a colleague to play in a team with you? 

For further information, please contact one of the Pro Team. 

Also, we are after some Lady volunteers to operate the refreshments on the 11th for the day. Probably starting about 10.30am through to 4.30pm, on a rota basis. Please let Tracy know if you are able to help. Thank you. 


The Satterthwaite Salvers on Bank Holiday Monday, 30 May, this is a club mixed foursomes event open to ALL members. Sign up in the foyer and also enter on the psi in the changing rooms. 


Club Championship on Saturday, 11 June is now open for entry on the psi. The closing date is Friday, 2 June and limited to 66 entrants.
