Such choice this Sunday evening, football or Golf? Portsmouth v Plymouth or Jason Day showing he is the complete golfer when he claimed the Players Championship title this weekend at Sawgrass, his seventh PGA tour victory during his last 17 starts. Unfortunately, Portsmouth were not so lucky losing 1 - 0 in the 91st minute. However, the golf was more exciting, and now the talk of the 'Big Three' has become the 'Big One' with Spieth missing the cut and Rory with only a top 15 finish.
The Delhi Cup
Near perfect conditions for the Delhi Cup this year and a new name on the trophy, George Saunders from Meon Valley won with a gross score of 139, 3 under par. I am sure George was happy to win, although Captain Adrian appears more delighted than George.
Runner Up was a previous winner Ryan Henley from Stoneham on 141.
Our thanks go to Howard Gleadow and General Manager Paul Brown for co-ordinating the day, to Derek Noyce and Alan Drayton who assisted with the scoring, and to all the members who gave up their time to help out on the course.
Knockouts
Can you ALL please ensure you record the results on the draw sheets AND on the psi. By recording the result on the psi, members are able to see the results by logging into the member's area of the website.
Dreadnought Trophy
On a busy Sunday the winner of the Dreadnought Trophy was junior Laurie Tennant with an unbelievable nett 62, giving Laurie a 2 shot handicap cut. Runner Up with a nett 67 and a handicap cut was Peter Eagles.
Kindred Clubs v Blackmoor
Our first round match in this years Kindred Clubs competition on Saturday paired us away to Blackmoor which we knew would not be easy. With the course in excellent condition, and with perfect golfing weather of wall to wall sunshine and a slight breeze, we got off to a flying start with myself and John Fisher and Mark Denton and Dave Gregory narrowly winning the first 2 games. However, this was then followed by 2 narrow defeats to Guy Patterson and Martin Tresidder and Loz Hopper and Terry Azor.
With the match hanging in the balance our hopes were resting with our final pairing, Captain Duncan Barlow and the evergreen Les Bishop who were 1 up playing the 18th. Duncan hit a glorious drive down the middle of the fairway, but left Les with a slight downhill lie. Les used all of his experience to craft a shot which, from 140 yards out, got no more than 18 inches off the ground and settled on the front fringe. With the Blackmoor pairing 10 feet away after 2, the pressure was on Duncan to leave his swinging uphill putt dead, which he accomplished with great aplomb, but still left Les with a tricky 2 footer. The Blackmoor pair needed a birdie to half the match and force a sudden death play off, but their first putt was left 3 feet short and their second putt ringed out leaving us 2 for the half and they conceded the hole giving us the match 3- 2 overall.
We await our opponents in the next round.

Beckford Bowl
Unfortunately, our Men's team lost 7 - 5 against Ferndown on Sunday, they fought back from a 3 - 1 loss in the morning. Many thanks to Gary Whitfield for organising the team.
A little update for everyone, the next round of the Greenjackets competition is due to be played on 28th May. The team will consist of Laurie Tennant, Taylor Archer and Luke Evans and is against Blackmoor. Laurie was the winner of the Dreadnought Trophy on Sunday with a nett 62.
I have decided to use the junior notice board to communicate forthcoming events and competitions, please keep up to date by using it. Currently there is a notice asking for volunteers for the remaining three triangular matches. These are all during the summer school break, so please put your name forward for any that you can play in.
I am slowly beginning to recognise most of you, but putting the correct name to the face isn't quite as easy so please bear with me on that one! Hopefully we can organise some junior golfing days in the summer break and get to know each other a little better.
Colin Field Junior Organiser
The winner of Sunday's Ladies Stableford was one of my star pupils Monica Finlayson with 38 points.
Runner Up was Lesley Milne with 34 points.
Stoneham Cup
Our 4th game this year was held at Hockley against Petersfield. In spite of weather warnings, it turned out hot and humid with only one minor downpour which lasted the whole of five minutes.
Again it was a very close game with one player going up the 19th and Pat Munro going up the 20th. The game rested on Pat who stepped in at the 11th hour to replace June Glasspell who was taken ill and had to withdraw. We wish June a speedy recovery and hope she will be back playing in the Stoneham Cup very soon.
Result - Hockley won 4 & 3. Well done girls.
Next game away at Liphook 27th May.
Wendy Evans Vice-Captain /Stoneham Captain
