Strike Your Irons Solid
Key on the knee: Push your right knee toward your left knee to make a proper forward shift.
What's worse than hitting a great drive, then chunking or sculling your iron shot from the middle of the fairway? Golfers usually have no idea why it happened. What I see is, they're trying to lift the ball instead of hitting down and through it. But you've heard that before, so let's try something else.
One good thought is to feel like your chest is more on top of the ball at impact, this prevents standing up, which usually goes with the lifting motion.
Another way is to push your right knee toward your left knee, which transfers the weight to your front side.
One more: Strike the ball with the back of your left hand facing the target. That gets right to the issue of eliminating the lift.
Bunch Bowl
2nd June BUNCH BOWL - Thanks to the Ladies' Captain Jean and Angela Gradidge for organising this annual greensome match between the Ladies and Seniors. A fine afternoon on our favourite course resulted in a win for the Seniors during a most convivial round.
June Glasspell presented the Bunch Bowl suggesting that both pink and blue ribbons should in future be available to appropriately adorn this fairly plain glass bowl!
6th June - Lee On The Solent entertained us at Lee when they fought back against our previous 5:1 lead at Hockley to achieve a 4.5-1.5 win at home! Their course was in great condition including well maintained bunkers with plenty of sand in them.
The Octogenarians' Trophy
A select group of golfers in the autumn of their years assembled on the 1st tee on what appeared to be the hottest day of the year to contest this prestigious trophy.
Undeterred, the group of eight players set off, displaying various levels of golfing ability as they progressed round the course, which was in immaculate condition.
Retaining his title was Peter Anthony with 36 points, beating Mike Chilcott on a countback.
Seniors Veterans Cup
The winner of the seniors Veterans Cup last Wednesday was Brian Ford with 42 points beating Michael Gillies on a countback.
Jubilee Medal
On a calm Saturday and a good entry into the competition the overall winner was Chris Hyde with a nett 65.
Past Captains Trophy
In ideal golfing conditions, 12 Past Captains played in the Past Captains Trophy on Sunday.
After his performances in our recent Pro-Am and the 125th Corhampton Invitation, it was no surprise that Immediate Past Captain Robin Webb took the honours with a steady nett par of 71 beating Danny Francis into second place by 2 shots with Steve Moore a further shot behind.
Pictured is Adie presenting the trophy to Robin.
What a fine looking pair!
