What a week we've had... The Hockley EGM, EU Referendum and the England football team out of the Euro's! You have to congratulate Iceland on a great performance, a team that wasn't supposed to win, but played with enough passion and heart.
And 2 firsts for me, an Albatross and a '10' on one hole...
The Albatross was whilst playing with Hockley member Andrew Chalke in the regional final of the Lombard Trophy at Walton Heath Golf Club on the par 5 16th, holing my 3 wood from 242yds, this was after on the 14th Andrew had holed from 70 feet for birdie. My boys were more impressed I reached a par 5 in 2.Unfortunately, we didn't qualify for the final, finishing tied 10th on 4 under par, 6 under won, but an enjoyable day out.
Not so good was the 10 I took on the 1st hole at The Army Golf Club, using an iron for safety as well. It can happen to the best of us.
Jack is taking over the tip section this week, and has put together a really useful piece on how you can get your a game back without the need for endless coaching...

Review of the Srixon Z155 Irons
I used a 6 iron to test the Srixon Z155 on the range so I had no direct comparison with my three-year-old Cobra for which we had calibrated the 7 iron. The Z155 proved easy to hit and to get airborne as well as achieving good consistency in carry and direction. Surprisingly I found the steel shaft much more to my liking, and with this I achieved greater carry than the graphite.
The 6 iron carried about 15 yards further than my Cobra 7 iron, so I assume they would achieve similar distances on a like for like basis. I believe these irons could be a good choice for anyone wanting to achieve consistency and confidence in their iron play.

Gales/Hockley
Unfortunately we lost 5-4 to Meon Valley who played extremely well. Their combined handicap was exactly 90 which is the maximum allowed, but well thought out by their captain Wayne, who used all of his Hockley experience.
The Birch Trophy played on Saturday in very mixed weather was won by
Alex Olney with a nett 69, I must add Alex played in the morning in the dry. Runner Up was
Russell Clayton with a nett 70, beating
Mike Archer and
Jason Laney on a countback.
Mike Cranswick and
Jason Pratt both had 2's and the winnings have been added to their Pro shop accounts.
More participation is needed into the 2's for it to continue, we give balls to the monetary value entered, if you do not like the balls given please ask to exchange them or have the money added to your shop account.
Unfortunately, our juniors were beaten by La Moye in the quarter finals of the Greenjackets on Saturday. Well done team you all played well in the awful conditions of heavy rain with thunder and lightning thrown in.
Waterlooville Seniors defeated us 3.5 to 2.5 at Hockley on 21 June, but we're looking forward to the return match on 18 July.
Ferndown went down 4 - 2 at Hockley on 23 June, but pork chops (Delia style) followed by yummy summer pud cheered them up after the match.
We're still waiting to find out who are our opponents in the Knighton Heath Knockout Plate! Also,
Peter Betts, who has done a sterling job organising our Knighton Heath Knockout teams and rounds for quite a few years now, is standing down. Volunteer wanted please for this rewarding task - phone Peter and chat through the role.
