Urgent appeal: Could all those members that played on Friday evening in the Golfer/Non Golfer event please check their golf bags for a set of keys with a lanyard on them. Bob Kimber's daughter lost her keys that evening and she thinks she may have put them in another bag and not her Dad's.
If you are holding any club trophies at home could we please ask you to return them to the admin office as soon as possible. They need to be sent for engraving in preparation for the Champion of Champions event and presentation evening on Sunday, 25 September.
Please note if you have won any competition at Hockley this year you are eligible to play in this event.
Our course manager Glenn Kirby has put together his latest blog on course conditions here at Hockley.

Volunteers Wanted - to help out at our Seniors Open on Wednesday, 7 September.
PLEASE contact Seniors' Captain, Geoff Charnley if you can lend a hand; e.g. starters, entering scores.
Hockley ladies lost 2-5 to RWGC in the Stoneham cup match on June 27th.
Unfortunately, the away friendly against Basingstoke was rained off and will be rearranged later.
Jean White
Ladies Captain
Golfer/Non Golfer
A very successful evening with the largest entry to date, even with several players dropping out at the last minute.
Everyone enjoyed this popular event, despite a sudden downpour half way through the evening. Malcolm Mackenzie took these photos of his playing partners and the double rainbow.
Underneath every rainbow is a pot of gold, Pat Munro left and Calum and Paige got caught in a shower.
The Best Golfer was
John Knezevich with 24 points. Unfortunately there's picture of John as he had to take his guest home.
The Best Non Golfer was
Becki Mitchelmore (nee Noyce) with 39 points.
The Winning team with 57 points was
Danny and
Scott Munro.
Runners Up with 56 points was
Ryan and
Ali Noyce.
'The only Noyce not to receive anything was Derek'
My thanks to our Captain
Adrian Nicol for doing the starting and staying late to collate the scores, all ahead of his big day.
Kindred Cup
After previously recording a good away win at Blackmoor the Hockley team were confident going into their match on Sunday. Unfortunately, it felt like most of the team were suffering a hangover from Captain's day, and from the post-mortem in the bar no one claimed to play at their best.
Subsequently, even though most of the matches were close, Hockley were white washed 5-0 by Alresford. In my own match where I was partnering
Les Bishop, we were actually 1 up on the 18th tee and Les hit a great drive. Unfortunately, the young gun from Alresford smashed one miles down the fairway where they could go for the green in two. My contribution was to knock our second shot almost 45 degrees right into the bundie and we conceded the hole when they had 8 feet for birdie and we had 10 feet for bogie. Although we were not dreadful on the 19th, we lost the match and the rout by Alresford was complete.
I would like to thank all of the team who represented Hockley, I will not name them in this note, but they gave it a go and there is always next year.
Duncan Barlow Captains Day An 8:30 start on the 11th tee for myself, wife, daughter and daughter-in-law. The weather forecast was for a sunny day with the possibility of light showers in the afternoon. By 9:00 the Gazebo was up, the nibbles laid out and the Pimms mixed ready for the first group through.
Unfortunately, the forecasted afternoon showers arrived in the morning, and the forecasted afternoon showers turned into a downpour with thunder and lightning rolling around the course. However, this didn't seem to dampen the spirits of the golfers with the biggest talking point being
"who chose the pin positions on the 1st and 7th" (I wonder???).
Everybody appeared to enjoy the modified waltz competition and there were some very impressive scores recorded. Three teams tied on 114 points with the winners,
Alan Barnes, Pete Robbins, Steve Pullen and
John Brickwood winning on countback (63) from
Mark Diaper, Darren Firth, Jason Cattle and
Alan Boucher (59) and
Martin Jukes,
Jim Gardner, Mark Wood and
Tim Waters (57). We would normally have a photo of the winning teams, but disappointingly none of them attended the prize giving.
Winner of nearest the pin and straightest drive for the men was
Brad Barber, (pictured with Tracy), winner of nearest the pin for the ladies was
Polly Church and winner of straightest drive for the ladies was
Pat Munro.
Nine teams managed to beat the Pro's score of 105, but unfortunately four of them (including all 3 teams on 114 points) didn't take on the challenge. You know what they say, 'You've got to be in it to win it!'
Congratulations to all of you. Full list of prizes is on the notice board.
The day was rounded off with a BBQ, raffle and auction attended by 90 people and evening entertainment was provided by international singing star Micha Dluzewska.
Pictured is Stephen hard at work trying to cook the BBQ in the rain!
My sincere thanks go to everybody who participated throughout the day and gave so generously to the Captain's Charity.

Is it the 'Big Three' or the 'Big Four'?
Just when you thought Jason Day, Jordan Spieth and Rory McIlroy were all set to divvy up golf's biggest prizes, along comes big-hitting Dustin Johnson. The US champion is now number two in the world and looks to be finally fulfilling his potential after another fine win at the weekend - and a big one too at the WGC Bridgestone Invitational. For years Johnson seemed destined to be the bridesmaid, now he's one of the favourites to go back-to-back in Majors and take the Claret Jug back across the Atlantic.
Next week's Open at Royal Troon could be a classic
