Congratulations to Paul Ellis on his 5th 'Hole in One' on the 5th Hole at Hockley this weekend using an 8 iron. Paul actually had a spectacular round consisting of 2 eagles and 4 birdies, but didn't enter the competition.
Indie Bilkhoo made an impression last week when he joined, John Fisher, Tony Taylor-Still and myself at the Blackmoor Pro Am. The impression he left will last a while, as it's just under the clock on the clubhouse wall whilst playing the 18th hole. From the bounce back he made a nett par and helped the team shoot 10 under par, but sadly we lost on a card countback to get in the prizes.

Ball Below the Feet
The big challenge from this lie is getting down to the ball and staying there through impact. The tendency is to pull up or move onto your toes, both of which lead to poor contact. You really have to squat down and lean your rear end into the slope to lower your center of gravity; your weight should be on your heels
Because of this awkward squat position, body turn during the swing is restricted, so it's more of a hands-and-arms motion. The key swing thought is, maintain the flex in your knees; that will help you stay in your posture. Still, your swing will tend to be more up and down, which means less clubface rotation, so aim left to guard against missing to the right.
I hope this helps...
If you have any area of your game that you are struggling with, please don't hesitate to get in touch if you would like to arrange a lesson.
Knighton Heath Plate - OUT but not DOWN!
Hockley lost to Meon Valley 4.5 to 5.5. Mike Kelly scored 76 gross off 8 but came up against a 9 handicapper who went round in 69 gross; not much he could do about that!
Seniors "bandits" WANTED for 2017, plus a volunteer to replace Peter Betts as organiser for the Knighton Heath Knockout competition.
Summer Friendlies
Our first ever match with the "Sartoriuns" vets at The Army Course, Aldershot was a great success on a well-groomed course. Well done Graham Light for his initiative in setting it up! 14 per side teams battled it out finishing with an equitable 3.5 draw.
The 08.30h "full English breakfast" set everyone up for a convivial round followed by sarnies and chips in a relaxed (dress) atmosphere.
Corhampton demonstrated their local course knowledge with a 4-2 win against us in excellent course and weather conditions.

Hockley's match mixers
The Mixed Match team got back to winning ways on Sunday with their resounding win in the inaugural match against Bramshaw. At the request of Bramshaw we hosted the first match, we felt we needed to after receiving many members from the new Forest club! But, on the course the Hockley steel bit, the visitors could not deal with the slick greens and rough and victory ensued.
Steve/Sebastian served splendid pork with cider sauce dinner topped off with a delish summer pudding.
A great match, well appreciated by all, and we look forward to a return on the Manor course next year.
The next mixed match is away at Hayling, then home to Corhampton and the Royal.
