A great 2 weeks for Team GB finishing second in the Rio 2016 medals table, winning an amazing 27 golds! These victories came in a variety of sports and whether it was on the track, in the pool, on horseback, on the golf course or anywhere else, we can all be proud about the performances of our athletes.
The countdown now begins to the next exciting sporting event, The Ryder Cup at Hazeltine Golf Club, USA on 30th September.
I was very pleased to see young Matthew Fitzpatrick nail down the ninth and final automatic spot for Europe on Sunday, by finishing fifth in the Czech Masters, giving him enough world points that no one can catch him when European qualifying ends next week in Denmark.
He posted this tweet:
'2 years ago I was sat watching the Ryder Cup at home with no status on tour... 2 years later and I'm in the team! Cannot wait.'

Rowlands Castle were on their mettle yet again! Following our defeat at Rowlands and in spite of a stirring team talk from me(!) they beat us again fairly and squarely on a fine day, with the course in good condition at Hockley. Nuff said.
However, only two days later, our Seniors' Vice-Captain Tony worked his magic yet again in following up with an away win against Stoneham with a 6:0 wipeout at Hockley. For example, filled with the fear of embarrassment on 13, John Mintrum and Doug Remnant came back from 5 down to win their match 1 up..
PS - great things expected this Friday when Tony again captains our Hockley men at Basingstoke.
The Jack Everard Final, had its ups and downs for Henry Cooper and Graham Light v Martin Chapple and Godfrey Shearing (pictured left to right). Dormie down on 17, Henry putt a birdie away from off the green to win the hole, but alas a par half on 18 wasn't sufficient to rescue the pair; Martin and Godders winning 1 up ... and buying the drinks!
Geoff Charnley - Seniors Captain
James Braid Medal On a very blustery and damp day The James Braid medal was won by
Russell Clayton with a nett 70, closely followed by
Laurie Tennant with a nett 71.
A Small entry into Sunday's medal so this was processed as one division, the winner with a nett 71 was
Richard Arrowsmith.
Runner Up with a nett 72 was
Sean Dolphin, hopefully aided by the new Odyssey putter he purchased last week.
Bowker Cup And Salver - A Right Royal Beating
Last Sunday our hopes were high for a victory over local rivals Royal Winchester in the Bowker Cup, played at Hockley, and the Bowker Salver, played at Royal. However, we came crashing down to earth with 2 demoralising defeats by 6 1/2 to 5 1/2 in the Cup and by 8 1/2 to 3 1/2 in the Salver.
As usual both matches were played in a competitive and friendly spirit with all players enjoying a 2 course meal, with the traditional banter at Hockley in the evening.

Adie and
Don with the Captains of Royal's Bowker Cup and Salver teams.
