Ryder Cup Captains Picks
I don't think it came as any surprise who the picks were going to be...
Lee Westwood, Martin Kaymer and Thomas Pieters secured the final 3 of Clarke's picks. Pieters who missed out narrowly on automatic selection for the Europe team, was fourth in the Olympics and second in the defence of his Czech Masters title last week to force his name into contention. We now wait 2 weeks for the American Captain's picks, personally I believe they should all be chosen at the same time, what do you think?

Members of staff and their families enjoyed a BBQ last Friday to say 'Goodbye' to Jess, Jacob and Leigh, who were also presented with their leaving gifts. Thank you to all those members who contributed to the gifts, they were all gratefully received.
I am sure you will join me in wishing them the very best for the future in their new ventures.
As Leigh leaves, our new recruit
Richard Marchmont joins us. If you see a new face around please take the time to make him feel welcome.
The sustained dry period we've had recently has at last put a stop any significant grass growth and is giving us time to focus on some other areas such as cutting and collecting some of the long grasses in regularly visited areas. This is an ongoing process and now we have suitable machinery to do this task efficiently these areas will be cut 3 to 4 times a year at appropriate times to help golfers find golf balls whilst still providing a suitable challenge and promote the fantastic flora and fauna at Hockley.
We have also done an early renovation on the putting green and will keep this closed for the next 2 to 3 weeks. The putting green on the practice ground remains open for members to practice on.

Hull Shield The Hull Shield is a Hampshire Ladies County Association aggregate medal event which was hosted at Hockley on Wednesday, 24 on what turned out to be the hottest day of the year so far.
Both scoring a nett 72,
Chris Quinn and
Judie Lewis won the Hull Shield for Hockley with a combined score of 144. Only 4 ladies scored level par or below with many of the representatives from 39 clubs struggling with the speed of the greens.
It is many years since Hockley have won this event, and as consequence of their great scores Chris is now back to scratch and Judie back to 5. Well done Ladies.

When the wind doth blow, Hayling doth know!
Saturday of the bank holiday weekend was calm; Monday of the bank holiday weekend was benign; but the Sunday of the bank holiday weekend was blowing a hoolie! Well at least on Hayling Island and at Hayling Golf Club.
So, local knowledge and vast experience of winds never experienced on the Hockley downs led to a sad defeat of the Hockley mixers. We even drafted in super pairings of the
Gleadows and
Eames/Walsh, even they could only manage halves. Having said that, many of the matches went to the late holes so a brave attempt was made. That was it folks a 7:1 defeat, but we beat them in the bar after stunning catering and superb hospitality.
We sincerely hope that the same team can come together next year at Hockley to reap revenge and repay the hospitality.
Carole and
TonyKnockoutsWhen you have reached the finals please decide your date to play the match and then let
Paul Brown in the office know, as a referee will need to be organised for the match.
