There's not long to go now before one of the greatest sporting events in the world takes place and the eyes of the sporting word will once again be focused on our sport. The Ryder Cup tees off on 30th September, and on Sunday, 2 October (the final day) I will be running a special Ryder Cup competition, tee times from 9.30am - 11am, play a singles Stableford over 18 holes, come in and enjoy a roast lunch to which guests are more than welcome. After lunch the scorecards will be drawn at random by Captains Nick Goater and I for Team America and Europe. You will then play matchplay against each other from your scorecard and of course stay to watch the final day of the Ryder Cup in the clubhouse.
Sign up on the notice board in the clubhouse, it's just £10 per person to include lunch.
The PGA in Hampshire Par 3 Championship
Tony and I managed to retain our short course team title at Ampfield GC on Friday, but it was mighty close! Our morning round was respectable, as a team we finished 4 under, which left us a bit behind the leaders.
In the afternoon we really got going with an 8 under par round, tying with Steve Richardson and his partner, but we won with a better last 18.
In the individual event I was going for 3 in a row, but just came up short finishing 2nd to Steve, despite having a 'Hole in One' on route, so not all bad.
Thank you to all those that have already completed my annual survey, this will help us review the service we provide you, and hopefully improve moving forwards.

Cleveland RTX 3.0 Wedges
'Closer Shots with Feel Balancing Technology'
The RTX-3 Wedge features three new wedge innovations that work together to create Cleveland's most consistent wedge.
With new Balancing Technology, the wedges have 9 grams of mass removed from the hosel and redistributed to the wedge head for a centre of gravity closer to the impact zone. Not only does this improve feel, but also the tightest shot dispersion of any wedge Cleveland Golf has ever made.
There are 3 new V Sole Grinds that feature a V shape with more leading edge bounce to help the club head through the turf faster at impact for crisper feel and more consistent performance.
I must say this is a clean and crisp looking wedge, that can be used by golfers of all abilities.

Please put the date in your diary to join us for the Macmillan coffee morning on Friday, 30 September. Enjoy coffee and cake and make a donation to the Macmillan Charity, why not bring a friend along as well?
Your donations of a cake or cakes would be much appreciated.
Having lost our away summer friendlies 4-2, both at High Post in April and Corhapmton in May, that wonderful sound of plastic on steel echoed around the home hills of Hockley on the 9th and 12th September as Hockley Seniors comprehensively struck back with 6-0 and 5½-½ home wins. Relentless practice and those pre-match team-talks obviously worked.
Yet again the magic worked, away at Ferndown on the 19th of September. Men of Hockley, undaunted by the continuous rain, repeated our 4-2 home win in this return away match. The Old Course at Ferndown was in superb condition with receptive, well-drained and fast greens. Heather in full bloom complemented a Scots Pine lined heathland background; every hole in a picture postcard setting.
One For Your Diary - Friday, 14 October - 11:00am
When the Seniors Annual Meeting rounds off a rewarding year for me and welcomes my successor; maybe followed by 18 holes for the energetic.
Geoff Charnley Seniors Captain
Junior Triangular
Our junior section played in the penultimate match of the Winchester triangular this weekend and pulled off a great recovery. With some help from the opposition they managed to turn a forty-point deficit into a mere eight points. This means that going into the sixth and final game on October 2nd we have a great chance to make an amazing win. An outstanding personal performance from Taylor Archer who had lost complete confidence in his driver, scored an amazing 35 points following a single lesson from the renowned Gary Stubbington...
The current match position is: Royal Winchester - 808 points Hockley - 800 points South Winchester - 781 points
So all very close but a great opportunity.

North Hants Trophy
Our Ladies team of Chris Quinn, Helen Bailey and Beth Goater made it through to the final of the North Hants trophy on Monday, beating The Army in the semi-final, but were beaten by Stoneham in the end.
Well done girls for making it to the final.
Only 6 entrants into the Ladies Stableford on Saturday and winning with 40 points was Louise Spruce.
Ladies, The Chilbolton Cup has been re-scheduled to this Saturday, 24 September.
Gales Hockley Final
The final of our flagship inter club over 50's competition was played on Saturday between defending champions Meon Valley and first time finalists Wellow.
With the course stretched to its maximum length off the white plates, the Meon Valley team gained the upper hand and secured a 6 1/2 to 2 1/2 victory to retain the trophy.
As we are all aware these events take a lot of time behind the scenes to make them a success and my special thanks go to organisers Paul Mantell and Derek Noyce for their hard work in making the competition run so smoothly.
I'm pictured presenting the Gales Hockley trophy to Meon Valley team Captain Wayne Brackstone.
