Hello Golfers,

I would say it's lovely to be back, but what a shock to the system! We have gone from 30 degrees in Mexico to only 5 degrees here that takes some getting used to.

My thanks to Chris and Jack for holding the 'fort' so well and for doing the newsletter for two weeks.

Turkey Trot

More juniors are needed for the Turkey Trot on Sunday, 11 November. Please note the entry into this is FREE for juniors. DO NOT enter through the PSI otherwise £11 will be deducted, please enter via a member of the pro team.


 

Seniors Winter League Team

Congratulations to the Seniors Winter League team who started this year's campaign with a 3-1 win against South Winchester at home. Well done to Mike Kelly and his team. The next match is against the holders Alresford away and we have sent a strong team captained by Michael Moore and we are hoping for another win.

Other Seniors News

Nine Hockley members, eight of whom were seniors, joined past Seniors Captain Sturt Hopkins and two members from Corhampton for a short golf tour in Cornwall led by Laurie Beardshaw . We narrowly lost our match against Trevose Seniors 3 ½ to 2 ½, but we were successful against Perranporth Seniors 4-2.

Captain/Pro

Following a fitting for a new PING driver and testing it out, our new captain Nick Goater had his first taste of Captain/Pro matches on Saturday and had a winning start in both matches! Although it was a wet start, both matches were close all the way through the front nine and after Nick holed a putt from 45 feet (you can tell how good his partners approach was) for birdie we turned 1-up on Danny Francis and Kevin McArdle and 2-up on Dennis and Luke Hodgetts.

The next turning point came at 13 as Danny and Kevin didn't finish the hole, Nick holed a putt from 15 feet and Dennis missed from 6 feet. Two holes later we had beaten Dennis and Luke and after Nick had holed another nice putt from 20 feet on 17 we were dormy against Danny and Kevin and a steady par on 18 finished our other game.

As usual the game was played in great spirit and we look forward to our next match against 'Dinky toys test driver' Alan Boucher who is already giving us some friendly banter along with Nick's other regulars David Wakefield, Jason Cattle and Dave Daish.


Competition Results

The full results of the John Simpson competition played on Friday, Saturday and Sunday can be found on the website, but the best score of the three days went to Paul Arber with 43 points, who did play on Sunday in much improved conditions than Saturday!


Winter League

The winter League draw has been posted on the notice board in the foyer. The league stage of this competition requires all individuals to play against each other before January 31st 2017. Please record your results on the slip next to the draw and hand into the pro team.

Sunday, 11 November - Turkey Trot

Please enter through the PSI in either locker room, entry fee is £11 Adults, Juniors FREE. 5 day members upon payment of a £10 green fee.

Includes: Hearty soup with selection of bread rolls, with festive mince pies and prizes.

A 9am shotgun start of singles, stableford, full handicap allowance, non-qualifier, allowance for Men/Juniors and Ladies 30, Men off yellow tees, Ladies off red tees.

Men's and Ladies Prizes, in fact...prizes galore! In the event of the competition being cancelled all prizes will go into the draw to take place at 1pm. All winners MUST be present to collect prizes.

Draw for partners and starting place will be posted on the notice board and website.

Note when entering future competitions can you PLEASE ensure you complete all stages on the PSI, you have NOT entered the competition if you leave after 'funds' have been deducted. Your final screen will show your name and 'Thank you for entering' the competition.
