MOT Your Game

Now is the time to get your equipment checked for the forthcoming season, including the lofts and lies of your clubs. If you have one or two clubs within your iron set that do not perform as well as the others, then it could be that the lie angles have moved over time. You may also have poor distance gaps between your irons so it is worth having the lofts checked too. We can check and change your set for £20 on our loft and lie machine. At the same time, we can check your grips to see if they are worn and shiny.

Did You Know?

Grips should be replaced every 40 rounds or every 30 rounds if you're spending a considerable amount of time at the practice range. Regardless of rounds played, a grip should always be replaced at the first sign of noticeable wear, including:

  • Smooth, hard surfaces.
  • Cracks.
  • Shiny patches.
  • Wear spots, especially where the thumbs make contact.
  • Faded or bare spots on grips that have been painted or have logos.
  • Complete loss of tack.

GripsImproperly sized grips, grips that aren't suited for certain weather conditions, grips that don't enhance playing ability and grips that are simply worn-out and slick will negatively impact your game and cost you strokes. Comfort, consistency, shot dispersion and shot distance can all be improved with new golf grips. A grip that is too small promotes extra hand action and commonly leads to 'pulling' the ball. A grip that is too large limits proper wrist movement, stifles shot distance and can cause you to 'push or slice' the shot. A new grip lets you hold the club lightly without the subconscious fear of losing the club during your swing or hitting it left or right. This relaxed state promotes proper swing mechanics and wrist action. While a worn grip causes you to grasp the club tighter, causing arm and wrist tension that inhibits proper swing mechanics and leads to a loss of power and control.

For a limited time, we are offering one FREE Golf Pride grip on your 7-iron, that's right, completely FREE! There's no catch. We want to show you just how beneficial a new grip can be, just some of the added bonuses are increased grip, greater control of the golf club and the potential to gain more speed through the ball. Come and see us now for a fitting and take advantage of our Golf Pride FREE 7-iron grip offer'.

Wedge AnalyserNew In - Cleveland Swing Analyser

The Wedge Analyzer measures almost every aspect of your swing using a Swingbyte 2 sensor. Based on key metrics such as attack angle and shaft lean at impact, it recommends the optimal bounce and sole grind configuration for various turf conditions.

Whereas a launch monitor measures the ball, the Wedge Analyzer measures the club. To recommend the proper bounce and sole grind, you need to know how the club is being delivered into the ball so you must measure the club path and angles. Roughly 65% of your shots are played within 125 yards of the green. Wedges are the key clubs that help save pars and make birdies. As a result, we recommend all golfers should be fitted to ensure they are carrying the right wedge, lofts, shaft, bounce, grind, etc for maximizing scoring. The Wedge Analyzer, captures the motion of the wedge throughout the entire swing, including the delivery into the ball just before impact.

Come and see us or click here to book a fitting.

A very successful 'Chipping and Putting clinic' was held on Monday and it had to be one of the best days of the year so far, it was just like spring out there.

Pros news

Captain/Pro Matches

Four matches this week in chilly conditions, with the first game having a touch of glamour in the shape of the Ladies Captain Wendy and Monica Finlayson, with their playing partners Andy Evans and Chris Stephens. Unfortunately, Monica and Chris just had one of those days that we all experience from time to time and our match finished early on. Wendy and Andy played steady all the way round, but Nick and myself had our best scoring round so far and finally won on the 17th.

On Sunday, we played some big guns in Pat Lawson and Alan 'Chippy' Carpenter along with the Drayton brothers (not as much glamour there). The front nine was tight, after we won the first we halved the next eight holes against Pat and Alan so were 1up and 3up on Draytons. Although we were not giving too many shots, our opponents had shots on 11 and14, both of which we lost, so on 15 we were square with Alan and Pat and 2up on the Draytons. Alan and Brian bogeyed 16 and then halved 17 to lose 3&2. We halved the remaining holes with Alan and Pat so had to go down the 19th, which thankfully we won. Many thanks to our opponents again, all good matches in tough conditions.

Onto next week where our opponents are Brad Barber and Mike Archer with Taylor (Jordan Spieth) Archer and George Horton.

Seniors' Wessex League - Match Halved At South Winchester

We gained a valuable two points for an away draw at South Winchester and so remain unbeaten. It was a very tight match with three of the matches going to the 18th, including both the matches we won, both 1up. This means the league table is as follows:

  • Corhampton - Played 6 - 15 Points.
  • Hockley - Played 5 - 13 Points.
  • Alresford - Played 7 - 7 Points.
  • South Winchester - Played 7 - 7 Points.
  • Royal Winchester - Played 5 - 6 Points.

Both of Corhampton's remaining matches are against us; at Corhampton this week on Wednesday, 15 February, and at Hockley on Friday, 10 March, postponed from Wednesday, 25 January. Finally, we will have Royal away after last week's match was postponed - no date yet for this.
