Welcome to another edition of the Hockley Pro Shop weekly newsletter, bringing you up to date with all the latest news and offers.
I hope you've all had a fantastic week on and off the golf course and what a day Saturday was, almost spring like weather. I even played our Captain/Pro match without a woolly hat and waterproofs.
Pat's Half The Man He Used To Be
We have just reached the half-way point for Pat Lawson's Charity Weight Loss Challenge, and I am pleased to report that he has now lost 1 stone and 5 lb. This means he only has 9 more pounds to lose to achieve his target of 2 stone. Thank you to everyone who has sponsored Pat so far and there is still time to give your donation on the sign-up sheet in the clubhouse foyer.
Good luck Pat, we can't "weight" to see your results.
Charity Quiz Night
Thank you to everyone that has signed up for the Charity Quiz Night on Friday, 3 March. Due to popular demand, we now have a second sign-up sheet available. Please can I just remind everyone to add your choice of food for the night next to your name. The food selection is on the sign-up sheet. You can also pay your entry over the bar now or on the night - just make sure your name has been ticked off the list when you pay!
Nick Goater, Club Captain.

New Arrivals
New spring/summer stock is arriving every day and this week we took delivery of the FootJoy men's clothing range, including shorts which I was very tempted to put out quickly on Saturday. We have a new line from FootJoy with logo'd slipovers and jumpers in navy or black and zip tops with contrasting sleeves. Come and take a look at the full range for yourselves next time you are down at the club.
The Odyssey O-Works Putters
Introducing the new O-Works putters from Odyssey Golf featuring the most revolutionary putter face in history. This new insert contains hundreds of individual stainless steel 'microhinges' which flex on impact, lifting the ball out of its impression to produce topspin for a smoother roll and improved distance control. This new technology will change the way you look at roll off the putter face forever. With updated Versa alignment, which allows your eyes to key in on the linear designs to highlight the proper face angle from address to impact for alignment throughout your putting stroke. The new red highlight lines give you an additional aid to make sure you're lined up exactly to your target. There are two Tank counterbalance options that feature heavier heads and shafts, which help to quieten your hands and engage the big muscles to deliver more stability at impact and promote a more consistent stroke.

Cobra Fitting Day
We will be holding a Cobra Fitting Day on Saturday, 25 March from 10:00am - 3:00pm. Come and try the new F7 range and the 'single length' irons from Cobra.

Captain/Pro Matches
An unusual start for the Captain and I this week, in that we started well! Our opponents Mike Archer and Brad Barber holed a fantastic putt for a half on eight, but turned on the back nine four down. Our other opponents Taylor Archer and Ollie Newcombe fared better around the front and were only two down after nine, even after Taylor hit the best shot of his young life on the 7th. After his partner had put him under a tree, he hit his rescue wood under, around and then over another tree onto the green, the big grin on his face when reaching the green was worth the price of admission! They then won the 10th to get back to one down, game on. Taylor and Mike have both played Nick in a few matches over the years and have come out second best. Taylor mentioned to his dad that he'd really like to take us down, the golfing gods then decided that unfortunately it wasn't going to be today. As Nick then chipped in for eagle on 11, we then made two at 12 to finish our game with Mike and Brad 8&6. We went on to make three at 13 and parred 14 to be dormy four. A par at 15 then closed out our match with Taylor and Ollie.
Another two enjoyable games on a glorious day. Four matches next weekend so fingers crossed we can keep this form going.
Summer Knockouts
The Summer Knockouts are now open for entry on the PSI machines in the locker rooms. Click here for the information and the conditions of entry and I urge you all to read them please. Closing date for entries is Friday, 31 March.
Can I also ask that when entering on the PSI, that you complete all stages and wait until you are thanked for entering. Do not walk away when told that the competition fee has been taken, this does not mean you have been entered. If you are unsure, please ask one of my team for help.
Family Foursomes
The entry sheet for the Family Foursomes on Sunday, 19 March has now been posted on the noticeboard and only £15 per pair. Why not play with a member of your immediate or extended family, they do not have to be a member?
John Simpson Fifth Card
Some high scores in the John Simpson Fifth card this weekend and full results can be found on the noticeboard in the men's changing room. Aiming for a younger demographic The European Tour have introduced some innovative ideas for the season ahead. The World Super 6 combined 54 holes of stroke play with a final-day knockout, whilst GolfSixes, which takes place later in the year, sees two-man teams battle it out over six holes in a group stage, before progressing to a final-day knockout.
