Captain/Pro Matches
Four enjoyable games with eight nice members this week, but played on two completely different days. Friday was calm, warm and scoring was pretty good as well, whereas Saturday was windy, cold and damp.
Our first two games on Friday were against Steve Hill Cousins and Martin Chapple with Sean Dolphin and Indie Bilkhoo, each match started very different. Nick and myself were a few up on Steve and Martin early, but lots down to Indie and Sean. Coming down the stretch Nick and I made a nice string of pars which helped us move away from Steve and Martin and on to a 3&2 win, but that didn't help us too much against Indie and Sean as they also had a good string of holes and had shots to back them up. Our loss to Indie and Sean, although only 2&1 didn't really reflect their domination of our match, they played nicely.
On Saturday we played Ai Lin Liu and David Longbottom with Howard Barton and Tony Thompson. Once again Nick and myself started nicely, although we halved the 5th in double bogeys! As we stood on the 7th tee we were 5up on Ai Lin and David and 2up on Howard and Tony, however we then went on a run of losses and turned 3up and 1up. Then, as we've done recently, we started the back nine nicely, 4, 4, 3 to go 5up and 4 up, although we hit it out of bounds on 14, we closed both matches on 15.

My Pro-Am list has now been published on the noticeboard in the foyer and I look forward to playing around the county with some of you this year. Please do not hesitate to ask me or any member of my team for more information on these events.
On The Course
The new Ladies Hockley Hares Trophy will be played on Tuesday, 7 March, this is a 4BBB stableford, comprising of one player each from the bronze and silver divisions. Please sign-up in the ladies locker room and a random draw will take place on Sunday, 5 March. Can we remind you to enter on the day on the PSI in the pro shop, entry fee £3 each.
Ladies don't forget to enter your Summer Knockouts. The Southgate Cup and American Tournament are now open for entry on the PSI in the locker room.
Wessex League Update
Our team played Royal Winchester last Thursday in gale force winds from Storm Doris. I'm very impressed they managed to play at all. I was in Yorkshire that day in Bronte Country and you could hardly stand up!
The first match was lost, then the next two won, and for a while it was looking like we might snatch a win until the opposition sank a long putt on the 18th to go 1up. The match consequently ended with a half, which means we are now three points behind Corhampton. We will be welcoming them to Hockley on Friday, 10 March for our final match, but even if we win we would only draw level. Ties are decided on the number of away wins, and we have one to Corhampton's two, so they are assured of victory. This is Corhampton's first victory, so it's good to see a new name on the trophy.
Saturday's Short Course Stableford Results
Division One Winner - Martin Gill with 41 points. Runner-up - Mike Henry with 40 points. Division Two Winner - Bob Kimber with 40 points. Runner-up - Dan Hood with 39 points. The twos winners were Murray Carter and Martin Gill each winning a sleeve of Srixon AD333 Tour balls.
Winter League
One semi-final was played on Sunday between Jo Russell and Scott Hammond against John Fisher and Dave Daish. The tightly fought match went to the 20th hole and was finally won by John and Dave.
Summer Knockouts
The Summer Knockouts are now open for entry on the PSI machines in the locker rooms, please note the closing date for entries is Friday, 31 March.
Family Foursomes

Why not play with a member of your immediate or extended family, they do not have to be a member?
