Masters Draw

MastersWe now count down to the Masters, only three weeks away, and our Masters Draw is now up and running. Who are you tipping to win? Dustin Johnson is on form or will Tiger surprise us? If you're not sure then why not enter our Masters Sweepstake? Only £5 per ticket for your chance to win the first prize of over a £100 to spend in the pro shop, this would certainly knock a dent in the new driver or trolley you may be considering purchasing.

We will also be running daily prizes of £10 each for the best and worst scores and the main prizes will go to 5th place.

New PING Sigma G Putters

PING SigmaA multi-piece face technology inspired by the soles of athletic shoes and advancements to PING's patented True Roll Face Technology have led to significant improvements in feel and overall putting performance in the distinctive PING Sigma G putter models. The Pebax elastomer, a material commonly used in the soles of athletic shoes for its elasticity properties, is a lightweight, high-energy return compound that delivers a uniquely soft yet responsive feel. The new True Roll Face Technology covers the entire face to provide confidence and full-face forgiveness. Precision milled from 6061 aerospace-grade aluminium, the new pattern varies in depth and pitch to improve performance and touch on putts of every length. Impact stability in every model is increased as a result of the larger face insert cavities that allow weight savings to be re-distributed farther toward the perimeter to increase the MOI. Optimally placed CG positions help reduce skid and initiate forward roll.

Come and try them out on the putting green or click here to learn more.

Trade-inBag Trade-in

Our bag trade in runs until Friday, 31 March and we are offering you up to £20 OFF selected golf bags when you trade-in your old bag.

Come and take a look at our extensive range.

Tip of the week

What A Wide Arc Feels Like...

To feel width in your swing, pull a towel tight with both hands and mimic your swing, creating and maintaining good width in your swing will help you hit longer and straighter tee shots. Simply put, a wider swing arc covers more distance than a narrow one and allows you to maximize clubhead speed.

To increase the width in your swing, try this exercise. While standing in your address position, grab a towel at two spots about a foot apart (as shown), keeping a little slack in it. Then stretch the towel as tightly as you can and maintain that stretch as you simulate your backswing and downswing. Notice how your left and right sides keep their distance from each other as they pull in opposing directions. This is the same feeling of width you want to re-create when you swing.

On the range, alternate between practicing the towel exercise and hitting shots until you get the feel of a wider swing arc. During rounds, you can reinforce this feeling using your golf towel while you wait between shots. Once you learn to maximize the width in your swing, you'll start to produce more clubhead speed at impact and rip those tee shots.

If you are still struggling with this technique however and would like to book a lesson, please click here to get in touch.

Pros news

Captain/Pro Match

With a combined age of 147, Roy Andrews and Mike Gandy are the oldest duo we've faced along with Mark Denton and Dave Gregory we enjoyed what felt like the warmest day for a while. Nick and myself started well this week having three threes in the first five holes to be up on both pairs early. The 'highlight' of the front nine was perhaps Dave shanking his wood off the 8th tee and still getting a half. We turned 2up on both pairs, but after making a six from 10 yards short of the green in two on 11 it was game on. Roy and Mike made three (nett two) on 12 for a half, but Mark and Dave made three so we then went 2up on them. Roy and Mike then holed a couple of lovely putts on 13 and 14 for a half and a win to be all square on the 15th tee. Mark and Dave got a half on 13 and 14 to be 2down on 15.

We then birdied 15 to go 1up on Roy and Mike and 3up on Mark and Dave, after we parred 16 we had beaten Mark and Dave by 4&3 and gone 2up on Roy and Mike. A steady par on 17 gave us the win against Roy and Mike. Again, a lovely afternoon and only six more matches before the final!

Senior section

Wessex League

Many thanks to the 26 players who have battled the elements and fierce competition. I start out each season with the intention of giving everyone two or three games including home and away (the average is 2.5 with 26 players). However, with several matches being rescheduled due to weather, course conditions, and the usual injuries, and sicknesses we seniors suffer. Once again this proved to be impossible, so apologies to those of you who would have like to play more (or less).

There will be a washup meeting in due course, so if anyone has any suggestions for improving this league, please let me know.

I have now done this for three years and we have come second each year - the longest spell without a win since it started in the 2007/8 season. If you would be willing to volunteer, please let me and/or Tony Crawford know.

Regards,
John Taylor.

Competition news

Saturday's Stableford

A dry day encouraged a large entry into Saturday's Stableford and the results were;

Division One Winner - Alex Olney with 41 points. Runner-up - Matt Chalk with 40 points, beating Mike Archer on a countback.
Division Two Winner - Harry Weston with 41 points. Runner-up - Robert Parkinson, beating Bill Harrison on a countback.

Only one winner of the twos sweep; Michael Moore who wins a dozen Srixon AD333 balls.

Sunday Stableford

A very low entry in to Sunday's Stableford meant that this was processed as one division. Winner - Paul Telfer on 39 points beating Mark Gillard on a countback.

Winter League Final

Winter LeagueSunday saw the final of the Winter League played between John Fisher and Dave Daish and Sean Dolphin and Kevin Stansfield. John and Dave got off to a flying start and with some exceptional golf were 5up at the turn. Sean then rolled his putt in on 10 for a birdie to reduce the deficit to four. Was a comeback on the cards? Only for John to birdie the 11th to regain the advantage. Kevin made a steady three to win the 12th and once again reduced the deficit to four (exciting stuff). With the 13th halved in fours, Dave took full advantage of his shot on the 14th to roll his putt in for a par, nett birdie, and close the match out 5&4. Captain Nick presented the prizes and thanked the pro team for co-ordinating the event, also to Jack and Chris for keeping the results up-to-date throughout the winter. As Adie wrote this piece he was too modest to thank himself, but the Captain did thank him for refereeing the match....

Due to the small number of entrants in the last couple of years the Golf Committee will now be looking at a change of format for next year's Winter League.
