Hello golfers,
We are now officially in 'Spring' and the clocks move forward an hour this Saturday, so more time to spend playing golf. Happy days! I hope you enjoy another edition of the Hockley pro shop weekly newsletter bringing you up-to-date with all the latest news and offers.
Congratulations...
Congratulations to our good friend and popular member John Fisher who proposed to his partner on her birthday this week and she accepted. Well done John.
Charity Games
The winner of the bonus ball this weekend was Elizabeth Betts. We are also collecting the Sainsbury's Active Kid's vouchers on behalf of Naomi House and Jacks Place, so if you are shopping in Sainsburys and are offered the vouchers, please accept them and hand into the pro shop. Thank you.
Social
Following the huge success of the Quiz Night a social committee has now been formed, so keep an eye out for forthcoming events such as a Race Night in May, a Summer Solstice event with breakfast in June, an Italian Fine Dining Evening in September and Fireworks in November. A Charity Easter Raffle will soon be on the bar with all proceeds going to the Captains' Charity, only a £1 a ticket, please give generously and buy as many as you like. Your support of these events will be very much appreciated.
Masters Sweepstake
We now count down to The Masters, only two weeks away and our Masters Draw is now up and running. Only £5 per ticket for your chance to win the first prize of over a £100 to spend in the pro shop, this would certainly knock a dent in the new driver or trolley you may be considering purchasing. We will also be running daily prizes of £10 each for the best and worst scores and the main prizes will go to fifth place.
Bag Trade-in
The bag trade-in offer ends next week and I must say the Motocaddy bags have been flying out of the door, but I still have a few left along with a wide choice of Callaway bags. Many of you will be dusting off your gear ready for action as the new season looms and a worn bag just won't do. It certainly won't protect your equipment. So, come and see us now and get £20 OFF a new Motocaddy or Callaway bag, along with £10 OFF other selected bags.

We are currently offering four dozen Titleist Pro V1 or Pro V1x golf balls for the price of three, this includes FREE personalisation as well as the option to customise your play number for only £2.

Captain/Pro Challenge
Our opponents this week had a couple of second chancers in their pairings, Nigel Newman invited big hitting Luke Hodgetts and Pete Crowe invited Daryl Williams, with the Vice Captain sending text messages to all teams as he was supposed to have played with Nigel, the mind games started early. Just like the 60 points England scored against Scotland (sorry to the Scots) we didn't see the result coming.
After starting with eight pars, then bogeying nine and 10 we went to the 11th tee 3up on both pairs. Nick hit a fantastic lob shot from position 'Z' which I put him into after he had hit a 300 yard drive (he's become very patient with me). I managed to hole out from six feet, we were then 4up on both pairs. Two steady pars from Nick and myself saw us close out both games on 14, beating Pete and Daryl 6&4 and Nigel and Luke 5&4. On a tough day both games as usual were played in a great spirit. We now move into the last two games, our next opponents are General Manager Paul with John Fisher and Past Captains Adie Nicol with Robin Webb, so they don't get any easier!
On The Course...
This season's matches began with our fixture against Barton-on-Sea. Unusually the weather was perfect with lots of warm sunshine, but our team led by Vice Captain Geoff Roberts unfortunately lost 4.5 - 1.5. Everyone enjoyed the day and there was a fitting farewell to Colin Butterfied who is leaving the club to move to Shropshire. He holed a long putt on the last to secure a half in the last match in front of all the team.
There are many more matches so please sign-up in the men's locker room if you would like to play. This week we have the first match in our Triangular Tournament at South Winchester.
Tony Crawford,
Seniors' Captain.
Junior Knockout
Please remember to enter the Junior Knockout by Friday, 31 March, to date no one has entered.
On The Course...
The final of the Daily Mail Foursomes Bowl was played on Saturday, 18 March on a very blustery day. Finalists were Sue Poulter and Sally Haig against Janet Cuschieri and myself and refereed by June Glasspell. It was pin and tuck right up to the 16th hole when Sally made a very long putt which took them one up. Congratulations to Sue and Sally who won 2&1.
