Trade-in
It's Time To Upgrade

The popular battery trade-in is back and we will give you £25 OFF a new lithium battery when you trade-in your old battery, working or not. Lithium batteries are quicker charging, last longer and work out cheaper in the long run than the standard Lead Acid alternatives, so it's time to say goodbye if you're still using one.

Pros news

Captain/Pro Challenge

Our last two matches took place on Friday against some regular foes, the doctors Martin Mitchell and Senior Captain Tony Crawford, with Graham Light and Peter White. Nick and I started poorly and were severely punished being four down after five to Graham and Peter and one down to Martin and Tony. We then had a mini revival and turned two down to Graham and Peter and one up on Martin and Tony. The next few went back and forth leaving us all square with Graham and Peter and three up on the Doctors, who then won 16 and 17 to be one down on 18 and Graham and Peter stood level on 18 after I missed from 6ft on 17. The Doctors then let us off the hook on 18 by not playing the hole quite as they wanted, but Graham and Peter and ourselves were both on the green in regulation. So, it then came down to the putting and fortunately for us Peter missed and Nick holed for birdie to give us a one hole win.

As we were shaking hands Graham then told us it was the only time we had been up on them, good timing.

Captain/Pro Final

On Saturday, 1 April 10 exclusive pairings successful in defeating Gary and myself during the Captain/Pro event, took part in the final show down.

With the weather forecast set fair, it was anything but. For the first hour of play the heavens opened and made for tricky and difficult scoring. This was a chance for Gary and myself to seek some revenge! However, it wasn't to be and we were pipped by worthy winners Jason Cattle and Dave Daish who scored a very creditable 39 points. Since the start of the Captain/Pro matches way back in November 2016, we have played 52 games and enjoyed every one of them with some memorable moments along the way.

Through your kind generosity these matches have raised over £1,000 for the Captain's Charity - Naomi House and Jack's Place. A massive thank you to all that participated and a special thank you to my partner (Golfing that is) - Gary. They say in foursomes you should never apologize for a bad shot, well now we have finished, if anyone finds golf balls out on the course with "STUBBS" written on them, it was me that put them there. Sorry Gary.

Captains news

Pat's Weight Loss Challenge

I am pleased to report that Pat Lawson has managed to achieve his personal goal of losing two stone in weight by the target date of Friday, 31 March. On behalf of Pat, I would like to thank everyone that sponsored him as well as refusing him that extra portion of cheesy chips. In total, he managed to raise £120 from within the club as well as further sponsorship outside.

Well done Pat - Top man or should that be slim man.

Nick Goater,
Club Captain.

Senior section

Junior news

Junior Triangular Matches

The first of the Junior Triangular matches took place last Sunday resulting in a great score for Hockley. The team outscored both Winchester teams with two notable performances of 39 points from both Beth Goater and Taylor Archer, well done guys. This gives us a great start to the 2017 season and we can hopefully move on from this to a win over the six matches. Next games are on the same weekend, Saturday 22, April and Sunday, 23 April at South and Royal respectively, please do your very best to be available as we have no spare choices for the selector this season.

Great result guys.

Colin Field,
Junior Organiser.

Junior Coaching

I am running two junior sessions on Tuesday, 11 April and Tuesday, 18 April from 10:00am - 12:00pm if you have any friends interested in taking up golf or you may want to come along yourselves.
