Two very successful fitting days were held last week, thank you to those members that attended, I hope you enjoyed the experience!? A special thank you to Tom Webster the TaylorMade Fitter and club member who gave up his playing time on Saturday to hold the session. Very favourable comments were made about this young man on his expertise, knowledge and manner. The day was very popular so if the demand is there, Tom is more than happy to run another fitting day later in the year.

Please remember I want to hear your news, if you go on holiday and play somewhere different take a picture and send it to us with a short story to publish. Celebrating something? Then please let us know.
It is with very deep regret that I have to announce the death of Life member Pam Satterthwaite . Pam died on Tuesday 1st July on her 90th Birthday, She was Ladies Captain in 1980 and was a great stalwart of the Club with a very distinctive laugh. She will be sadly missed by all.
Seniors club matches are almost at the halfway stage, we have had 45 members in total participating and we have recorded 6 wins, 2 halves and 4 lost matches.
We sadly lost comprehensively in the second round of The Knighton Heath Trophy, a personal thanks to Frank Hollick for organising our participation in this event.
Seniors Club Championships
I am sad to report that we have decided to revert to 'ENTRY ON THE DAY' as there is no appetite for making this a special event, there now will be no start sheet published and the booked tee times will be withdrawn and there for all to use. If you have already entered via the PSI, speak to the Pro Team and they will ensure you are not debited twice. Thank you to the Golf Committee for assisting me.
Finally can I ask all who have signed up to play in friendly matches to review their availability as recent team picks have shown that peoples circumstances have changed which has caused team selection to be difficult.
Happy golfing
Stuart, Seniors Captain
Kindred Clubs
Last Saturday a team of ten from Hockley went to Barton-on-Sea for the second round of the Kindred Clubs Foursomes. The format requires a maximum handicap of 18 and the total handicap for the team of at least 90; we were 98. There was a distinct possibility of rain, but fortunately the weather was excellent albeit a little bit breezy in the later stages.
Hockley won the match 3-2 with the 2 points for Barton coming after extra holes as each game had to reach a conclusion. For a team to play away and have no game down after 18 holes is a great result and shows that everyone did their part. Our thanks for representing us go to Paul Mantell, Derek Noyce, John Fisher, Terry Azor, Mike Eames, Rick Arrowsmith, Ian Napleton, John Poulter and in particular Les Bishop who was drawn to play with Duncan Barlow. Les and Duncan were actually 6 up after 10 before closing the match out on the 18th, with Les having played a great tee shot under pressure to an island green and then having to sink a 2 footer for the win.
We are now waiting to find out the result of Bognor versus Cams Hall to find out who we play in the next round.
The Trifid Cup
A very poor entry into the Trifid Cup, but the winning pair were John Taylor and Michael Gillies.
The Birch Trophy
The Birch Trophy was won in difficult weather conditions on Saturday by Pete Robbins with a nett 71, and the runner up was Merrick Denton Thompson with a nett 72. I must mention my star pupil Kevin Burnett-Whalley who was 3rd with a nett 72, losing on a countback, but Kevin is over joyed at his one shot handicap cut. The lessons are starting to pay off.
Srixon Sponsored Stableford
A very good entry into the Srixon stableford on Sunday, could it have been the FREE sleeve of balls or the fact the sun was shining? The winner of division one was Alex Olney with 40 points, runner up Tony Canning also with 40 points but losing on a countback. Congratulations to Alex who also won The Army Open on Saturday.
Division 2 winner was Mark Bowen with 40 points, and the runner up was Tony Agius with 36 points.
Both the Ladies and Men's Championships are now open for entry on the PSI machines in the respective locker rooms.
Please note the closing dates for these events will be this weekend, if you are unable to get to the club before this time please call the Pro shop to enter for you.
Tee Closures
Saturday 5th July the course MUST be clear by 1.30pm as the Presidents Summer Foursomes will be a shotgun start at 2pm.
