Unfortunately it wasn't to be for Jack at Woburn last week. To get through to Open final qualifying took him way beyond anything he had achieved before, he has learnt a lot and now knows what he needs to work on, mainly mental preparation and how to handle nerves! There will be plenty more opportunities and we are very proud of him for getting to this stage. Thank you all for your good luck wishes and messages and of course to Ben his brother caddying and supporting him.
There is some good news to report though, we are pleased to announce Jack has passed his first year PGA assignments and exams, so it's now time to concentrate on some serious practice and golf.

Pat Munro unfortunately left her Ladies Callaway Big Bertha Sand Wedge by the cross bunker on the 3rd hole last week. If anyone has kindly picked it up can I please ask you to call the Pro shop or drop it in when you are next visiting the club, Thank you.
Hole in One
Congratulations to new member Nick Cook on achieving his first Hole in One at Hockley at the weekend. This was on the 16th hole with a high, towering, soft drawing 5 wood (that's what he told me).
On a sadder note, Pam Satterthwaite's funeral will be held at Basingstoke crematorium on Monday 14th July at 1.15pm and the wake will be held afterwards at Hockley.
Gales Hockley - Hockley March On!
Howard Barton was the 'Hero' for Hockley having clinched the winning point to secure a well-deserved victory over a very strong Romsey Team. With the Hockley 'Gents' all conceding shots to their respective opponents it was clear that a tough match was on the agenda. Back in form Alan Drayton secured the 1st Point, but then defeats for Bob Bailey, Pat Lawson, Robin Webb & Gary Whitfield (All by narrow margins) looked to have given Romsey the Victory, but alas the final 4 matches ended with victories for John Fisher, Steve Elliott, Kev May and Howard Barton thus meaning the Hockley Team snatched Victory from the Jaws of Defeat!!
Onwards and upwards to the Semi-finals which will be held at Camberley Heath on August 24th against either Rowlands Castle or Alresford. Supporters welcome.
Golfer/Non Golfer Event
The very popular Golfer/Non Golfer event took place on Friday with 18 pairs taking part. The fun evening started with cloudy and warm conditions, but finished with cold, wet and windy conditions. This didn't put the players off though, they all battled on and finished the 10 holes and made a quick retreat back to the clubhouse for sandwiches and chips.
The winning pair were Alan and Babs Smith, and runners up were Trevor and Joyce Scott. The best golfer was Malcolm Mackenzie and there was a three way tie for the best Non golfers, Sue Ellard, Tracy Stubbington and Angie Cain. I must dispel the rumours that Tracy is a golfer, the last time she played 18 holes of golf was 26 years ago when 3 months pregnant with Ben! Although still able to hit a ball she has no concept of how to read a green, perhaps one day I will be able to persuade her to take the game up? Damian tells me Angie has never held a golf club before, so maybe this will inspire her to take up golf.
Thank you to Howard Gleadow for co-ordinating the evening with Tracy and for presenting the prizes
Presidents Summer Foursomes
The weather held out for Derek's final Presidents Summer Foursomes on Saturday and the winners were popular member Richard Arrowsmith with Marc Dryden scoring 41 points. Runners Up with 40 points were Paul Mantell and Di Broughton.
I am sure those who have supported this event would like to join me in thanking Derek and Suzanne for providing the prizes and superb buffet, which of course was prepared by Tina and Dan.
