Captain/Pro Challenges Two new opponents this week in the shape of the Perritt’s Dan and Kim and what a steady pair they are. They were up on Damian and I early and kept us under the cosh for the entire match, perhaps the shot of the day came from Dan on the 11th, Kim hit his tee shot into the first bunker on the right, as Dan took his stance he had his right foot out of the bunker and above the ball, with the ball only a foot away from the back lip, tricky. He took out a fairway wood, ambitious we thought, then hit from there about 200 yards down the fairway, it really was a fantastic shot from a very difficult position. Although we managed to win a couple of holes from them, they closed us out on 16 with a 4&3 win. Our other game against Polly Church and Richard Broughton was also going the wrong way when we were three down with five to go, not looking good, however on a cold difficult day we strung a few pars together late on and after great chip shot out of the thick rough from Richard which Polly then holed from 6ft on 18 we finished even. So, we were down the first hoping to finish nearest in three, luckily for us Damian hit a lovely putt (From distance after my shot, it has to be said) closer than our opponents. A very enjoyable afternoon, even on such a cold day. Next week we have two very seasoned pairs in Pat Lawson and Alan Carpenter with Drew Gibson and Grant Russell, let's hope it's a bit warmer. |
