Welcome to another edition of the weekly newsletter bringing you up to date with all the latest news and offers from Hockley Golf Club. I hope you've all had a good week on and off the golf course and are well prepared for "The Beast from the East!"

Annual Subscriptions

You should all have received your annual subscription letters by email or post, if you have not had anything please contact Jane or Linda in the office. Subscriptions can be paid by cheque, cash, credit or debit card and given to the office staff, bar staff or pro shop team. Bank transfer is the preferred option, and should you require the bank details please contact Jane in the office.

A fond farewell...

Many of you will have already heard the news that Glenn is leaving us, but as my newsletter also goes out to visitors I thought I would include the email that was sent out to members last week:

‘It is with mixed emotions that I have to inform you that our Course Manager, Glenn Kirby, has tendered his resignation. From the perspective of Hockley Golf Club and on a personal level it is a very sad day. On the other hand, Glenn has been offered an excellent opportunity to further his career and we should all be pleased for him. I certainly am, and I wish him every success. Thankfully, we're not losing Glenn to another golf club, but to a corporate entity! Glenn will be with us for another three months and, typical of him, he's assured me that he will remain committed to Hockley in that time, not only in relation to the estate and course, but also in helping to recruit his successor’.

Congratulations...

Congratulations to Anne and Howard Gleadow who celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary last weekend.

From a fairway, far, far away!

Well the run continues, and this week we had everything in our games with the Doctors Martin Mitchell and Tony Crawford with Sean Dolphin and Indie Bilkhoo. We had partners hitting each other with their shots, shanks, duck hooks, duffs, strategic lay ups... I think that's the best way to describe your shot on 11 Sean, followed by birdies and eagles.

On Saturday we played the father and son duo Howard and Dan Barton with Nigel Noke and Martin Gill. A tough day which was epitomized on the 11th where we hit three really good woods to get to the green! Again, we were looking good after nine, being up on both pairs and at one time four up on Nigel and Martin, but they came back well and took advantage of some not so good golf and took us up the 19th, luckily, we scrapped through to win. Dan and Howard played very steady golf and are both good ball strikers, they took us right to the end, but Damian and I came through to win two up.
This Saturday we have a new pair of Paul Spooner and Stuart Humphreys with Nick Bell and Chris Boswell who have played Capt/Pro matches before, so another tough couple of games.

If you use your shop credit BEFORE Saturday, 31 March 2018 we will give you another 10% equal to the value of your credit. For example, if you have £100 credit we will give £110, but this must be spent in one transaction and before Saturday, 31 March.

Fitting Day

Ladies Competitions

At the Golf Committee meeting on Tuesday, 20 February the committee considered the enthusiasm from some ladies for more competitive golf. The committee have decided to trial during March 2018 making the Mid-week and Weekend Stablefords a mixed competition.

With the difference in standard scratch scores between the yellow and red tees ladies will receive four addition shots to their current playing handicap as defined in the CONGU rules. The entry fee for the competitions will remain £4.

The competition handicap divisions will remain Division One - + to 14, Division Two - 15 to 28 with an additional Division Three - 29 to 54. Ladies will play in the appropriate division after the four additional shots have been added.

Ladies don’t forget to enter your Summer Knockouts the Southgate Cup and American Tournament now open for entry on the psi in the locker room or pro shop.

Ladies Sale

Further reductions have been made on the JRB winter lines with lined jumpers now only £25, perfect for this time of year.

Short Course Stableford

The winners of the Short Course Stableford on Saturday were:

Division One - Richard Brownhill with 36 points.
Division Two - Paul Wynn with 34 points.

New event for your calendar...

A Florida Scramble will be played on Easter Monday, 2 April, this will be a shotgun start at 1:00pm with a prize presentation after play along with sandwiches and chips, which will be included in the entry fee of £10. This will be a drawn competition and hopefully include one lady in each team. The entry sheet and more information has now been posted in the foyer along with the Florida Scramble rules.

Please try and support this event as the club really is trying to encourage more mixed fun golf.

• Friday, 2 March – Sunday, 3 March - The John Simpson Sixth Card.

• Friday, 23 March - Quiz Night.

• Sunday, 25 March - Family Foursomes - The entry sheets have now been posted on the noticeboard, only £15 per pair. Why not play with a member of your immediate family, they do not have to be a member of Hockley but must hold a competition handicap?

• Friday, 30 March - Callaway Fitting Day - 10:00am – 2:00pm, book your time slot with any member of my team.
