Captain/Pro Challenge The first of our three match days last Thursday was played in lovely sunny conditions against Jo and Jonathan Russell with our Manager Paul Brown and Adrian Nicol. Both games stayed tight all the way round, but we were chasing both games, however Paul and Adie did play very nicely and took us out 2&1.
Jo and Jonathan took our match all the way down to the last hole, luckily Damian managed to hole from six feet for a 1up win. This was even after Jo hit her tee shot 40 yards past Paul and myself on the 10th and then Jonathan hit a towering iron shot to make birdie. However, complete opposite weather conditions in our second match day, which was the coldest day we have played in any of this series of Captain/Pro matches and it showed in our golf. Our opponents were Paul Spooner and Stuart Humphreys with Nick Bell and Chris Boswell, unfortunately Damian and I played poorly, and we were three down to Paul and Stuart and six down to Nick and Chris at the turn, so we were in a bit of bother! Nick and Chris took care of us easily winning 4&2, however, Paul and Stuart gave us a bit of a chance letting us get back to one down playing the last, unfortunately we could only get a half to lose by one. Match day three was abandoned on Sunday due to the ‘Beast from the East’ part two. So, Tracy and I went for a walk around the course and took in the views across Winchester. Just for a bit of fun, where am I on the course in the second picture?

Masters Draw We now count down to the Masters, only two weeks away, and our Masters Draw is now up and running. Who are you tipping to win? Will Sergio Garcia defend his title? Or could Rory take the jacket after his sensational win at Bay Hill this weekend? If you’re not sure then why not enter our Masters sweepstake. Only £5 per ticket for your chance to win the first prize of over a £100 to spend in the pro shop, this would certainly knock a dent in the new driver or trolley you may be considering purchasing.
We will also be running daily prizes of £10 each for the best and worst scores and the main prizes will go to fifth place.

Senior Matches Our 2018 Summer Friendlies season started last week with a very wet match at Barton-on-Sea on Monday. Despite the wet ground and a few heavy showers, all appeared to enjoy the experience with the result that we only lost by two games to four. One of our team did get his gear extra wet sadly, when a runaway trolley didn’t stop until it had found itself in the bottom of a substantial stream! He did manage to get everything dried in time to help his Captain to a hard fought half, three days later at Hockley. Our second match was held at Hockley on Thursday with the team from Lee-on-the-Solent. It was very nearly called off due to the weather forecast, but went ahead in what turned out to be a fairly warm and dry afternoon. My thanks to all the team for coping with the conditions caused by heavy overnight rain which meant that we all were required to carry and not play a number of greens. Our guests were surprised and a little disappointed, but still said that they had a good day overall. The result was a win to Hockley of 4.5 to 1.5. Geoff Roberts, Seniors' Captain.

On the Course... Saturday's St. Patricks Day Stableford was played in very difficult conditions, however 24 members did complete 18 holes, not these three though, however they seem happy enough although freezing cold. Our overall winner was Monica Finlayson with 36 points and the runner-up was Richard Gillespie with 35 points. It was good to see ladies competing in mixed competitions and winning, well done Monica. The St David’s Day Stableford has been re-scheduled AGAIN to Friday, 30 March and the final John Simpson Card to this weekend - Friday, 23 March to Sunday, 25 March.

If you’ve been in the pro shop recently you’ll have seen lots of new products displayed proudly around the store, many of which are new for 2018. One that’s generated quite a bit of interest is Skechers' GO GOLF Pro V.3 golf shoe, so we thought we'd take a closer look at it in this week's newsletter. |
| Skechers GO GOLF Pro V.3 golf shoe | When considering a new pair of golf shoes there are three main factors to consider: comfort, performance and the shoe's outsole. The Pro V.3 by Skechers boasts some of the lightest and most responsive cushioning we've ever witnessed in a golf shoe, producing cloud-like comfort on every step you take. The fact that Matt Kuchar trusts this shoe enough to wear on tour says all you need to know regarding its performance, whilst the cleated outsole provides fantastic traction no matter the weather. |
