The Captain/Pro Tales As the famous author and poet Geoffrey Chaucer once said; “All good things must come to an end” and so it was at the weekend, when the finals of this year’s Captain/Pro took place.
In a highly competitive finale the spoils were taken by the Drayton brothers, winning on countback from Adie Nicol and Paul Brown. The final was the culmination of 40 matches played throughout the winter, and despite plenty of wind, rain and two visits for the Beast from the East, it was a thoroughly enjoyable experience and my heartfelt thanks go to everybody who took part. It bears repeating that the Hockley Captain/Pro matches are the envy of many other clubs and it is a credit to Hockley and its members that the tradition is so well supported, and long may it continue.
|
Captain/ Pro in numbers - Matches played – 40.
- Won - 29.
- Lost - 11.
- Longest winning streak - 20.
- Charity donations, approximately £1,000.
- Teacakes consumed - 100.
That only leaves me to say a huge thank you to our Pro Gary who partnered me with good grace, lots of patience, the odd bad joke, and countless valuable tips. In parallel with Chaucer’s Canterbury Tales; it’s been a marathon, there have been highs and lows, some occasional bawdy language, but in the end, it was well worth it!

It's time to upgrade... The popular battery trade-in is back and we will give you £25 OFF a new lithium battery when you trade-in your old battery, working or not. Lithium batteries are quicker charging, last longer and work out cheaper in the long run than the standard lead acid alternatives, so it's time to say goodbye if you're still using one.

Put your name up in lights |
It only comes around once a year and it’s that time again - Masters week! The first Major of the year takes place at Augusta National this week, which we always take as a sign that the season is getting underway. With this in mind, we have one question for you: are you ready to play your best golf this year? |
Maximise your potential We've all sat looking at the honours boards in a clubhouse before, admiring the one name that appears to be on most and thinking 'wow, they must be pretty good!' Well, how good would it feel if that name up in lights was yours? If you come and speak to us we can talk about your strengths, weaknesses and goals for this season and look at the best way to help you achieve them, whether that’s a one-off fault-fixer lesson, regular sessions to aid your consistency or perhaps a look at your equipment. |
