Can we please ask ALL members that are currently holding trophies at home to return them to the office by the end of this week. Presentation evening will soon be upon us and the trophies need to be engraved for the occasion.
Bar And Catering Survey
The club fully recognise that the 'day to day' service in the bar to members is not consistently good enough and the team have fully reviewed a permanent Fixed menu, Blackboard Daily Special offering and Match menu's after a full season of feedback. They would now value your feedback as they are determined to 'continuously improve' and it would be much appreciated if you could spend 10 minutes with Dan, either individually or as a group, to answer some questions constructively.
Hockley regain the Triangle
Our team of 30 players including Men, Ladies and Juniors and myself spent a pleasant Saturday afternoon playing in the triangle, which I am pleased to say we have regained. I am informed by our Ladies captain that the ladies brought in a range of pretty good scores, which tipped the balance well in our favour. Before the ladies and juniors came in RWGC were in the lead.
Results:
Hockley 868
Royal Winchester 847
South Winchester 821
Gales/Hockley
A Fabulous win: 5-4
Hockley played the defending champions Rowlands Castle GC in the 2nd semi-final on Sunday 24th August. The match was played on a neutral course: Camberley Heath GC. In perfect conditions and with 6 of the Hockley team giving between 2 and 8 shots to their opponents, it was always going to be a tight match against a very strong Rowlands Castle team.
However, there were comfortable wins for Alan Drayton, Robin Webb, Alan Carpenter and Kevin May.
With all matches having to play to a finish, Bob Bailey lost on the 19th, John Fisher lost on the 20th. It was all getting very un-nerving. It was left to Steve Elliott to win on the 20th to give us the deciding point.
We now play Bramshaw in the final on 20th September (a repeat of the final 2 years ago which Hockley won) at Tidworth GC. Any support would be most welcome.
Jack and I played in a new Pro Am this year at Blacknest both with Hockley teams. I played with Geoff Charnley (his first Pro Am), Graham Light (a Pro Am veteran) and our Captain, Steve who played nicely and picked up a prize for nearest the pin.
Jack's team had 2 winners; Tony Agius had a nearest the pin, and mighty George Hoarton the Longest Drive. They were accompanied by our very own Jim Digby. Unfortunately, our collective scores didn't warrant us being at prize giving, but an enjoyable day was had by all.
Just a few Pro Ams left now and one or two have had their dates changed, so please take a look at our list in the foyer for those requiring teams, or pop in and see us in the shop.
