I had a bit of a touch last Friday winning the PGA in Hampshire Short Course Championship at Ampfield Golf Club by 3 shots. Considering my short game, I'm sure many of you will be surprised (I certainly was). Many thanks to George and Jill Hoarton for playing with Jack and myself, it was a great day out.
Demolition of the old Pro Shop and adjacent buildings will commence on Monday, 8 September and during this time the area will be securely cordoned off.
A little sad to see this piece of history go and the shop served us all well, but we must move on and are very happy in our new home.

I was delighted to hear that another of my star pupils Louise Spruce broke 80 for the first time on Saturday and was very pleased with herself, but this did come a day too early for Louise as she finished 5th in the Pope Cup, behind the winner Sue Poulter who had a nett 76.
Well done to Sylvia Peach who had a hole in one at Edgbaston GC.
Jo Russell finished second in the St Enodoc Ladies Championship, well done to both Ladies.
A good entry into the Stubby Stableford on Saturday and the winner of Division 1 was Alex Olney with 38 points and runner up Phil Nelson 37 points.
Division 2 winner was Matt Wetton with 38 points, Runner up Colin Johnson with 36 points, beating Mike Ellis on a countback.
Sunday was a much quieter day with 31 entries into the stableford, and the Division 1 winner with 39 points was Vince Holmes, beating the past Captain Mike Eames on countback.
Division 2 winner was Dave Tullet with an amazing 41 points, the runner up was Andy Cole with 38 points.
Hockley's mixers come second
On a glorious Sunday, at the finest links course west of Rye, the team of Hockley's mixed pairs came second to Hayling Golf Club. (5/3) The conditions could not have been better for the encounter but even though all matches went to at least the 17th, and the home experience won out. Hayling GC have made many improvements to their estate - additional bunkering, longer championship tees (which we were made to play off!) and the removal of much scrub has made the views from the course over the channel, the Solent and Langstone harbour even more spectacular. A match fought in true golfing spirit with great post-match banter made it a very memorable day.
Saturday, 6 September - Ladies Medal - 2nd round of the Habin Cup and The Men's Medal incorporating the Ladies Captains Trophy.

30th Autumn visit to Etretat
This weekend (6/7th September) 40 members of Hockley will make the autumn visit to our twin club Etretat in Normandy, France. This is the return match to the one held in Hockley in May this year - a match which Hockley won rather convincingly. For those members new to Hockley the twinning is now in its 30th year and the envy of many other English clubs. All Hockley members are welcome to try this experience of golf, gastronomic food and tasty wines; ideally, if you wish to go to France in the autumn one should participate in the home event but this is not essential.
There is a serious golf match on the Saturday against the French but on the Sunday we have a more light hearted competition playing with the French. We suspect that after the drumming in May the French with want revenge so fielding their best players this weekend, and they do have some very good players. As in our sister sport 'rugby' the match is serious and so is the eating and drinking. You don't have to speak French, it helps but they all speak our native tongue very well. Please join us, we have fun and we want this twinning (jumelage) to continue for many more years.
