Welcome to another edition of the weekly newsletter bringing you up to date with all the latest news and offers from Hockley Golf Club. We hope you're having a great week on and off the golf course. Enjoy this week's read! |
The tables have turned
I’m starting on a light hearted note this week. Scott and I often play together socially, and he frequently has to part with his cash, well the tables were turned this weekend when he shot two under round Hockley and took my money. He wanted the picture as evidence that he can beat me.
Scott also plays in the Hampshire Pro-Ams and is always looking for members to take part, so please contact him should you be interested in playing in any. We need to encourage Chris out next.
My junior groups start again on Saturday, 8 September at 9.30am and 10.30am. Please contact one of my team should you know anyone aged between six and 16 that maybe interested in taking up the game. |

Men's Mid-Week Stableford
Chirs Kokaram took the honours in Division One with 40 points, whilst Mike Pinson playing his first qualifying competition shot an outstanding 47 points to pick up a win in Division Two.
|
James Braid Medal Saturday’s James Braid Medal was won by Steve Hill Cousins with a fantastic nett 63, this was achieved by attending our recent Aimpoint clinic with Jamie Donaldson, who is Europe’s Aimpoint head coach and was featured on Sky Sports Golf this weekend with Nick Dougherty.
When Speaking to Steve he said, ‘It all just clicked!’ this is great news and the Aimpoint Express looks like it has helped him understand reading greens a lot better.

Monday Stableford
Division One was won by Alex Olney with an excellent 41 points. Shaun McGrattan was first in Division Two with 37 points, beating Bill Harrison on countback. |

Top of the table
Despite only being able to field a team of four players instead of six, Hockley juniors played extremely well with scores of 38,37,37 and 34 points. A very big thankyou to those that played. The result means that our lead over the pack was reduced from 32 points to five so still a good position. Next round is at South Winch on Saturday, 8 September at 1:00pm.

Seniors Invitation
The very first Senior Invitation Day was held last Friday. 21 Senior members invited guests from near and far. The nearest perhaps being a member from Royal Winchester, and certainly the furthest being a member from Melbourne Australia.
Everyone enjoyed playing our course, which, thanks to Doug’s team, was in its usual superb condition. The day concluded with an excellent carvery served by Tom in person. Thanks to him and his team for a meal which was very well received.
|
The competition was run as a pairs stableford betterball and prizes were given for the top three pairs as follows:
1st - Roy Hutson & Phillip Hassall (guest) - 46 points 2nd - Geoff Ford & Phil Field (guest) - 45 points 3rd - Graham Light & Steve Pope (guest) - 45 points
A final thanks to Graham Light who organised the event and did all the hard work behind the scenes to ensure a great day for all who attended. As Roy said in his few words at the end, we hope this will be the start of a regular event for the Seniors, with many more joining in future years.

On the Course...
An apology, the winner of the Ladies Mid-Week Medal in the Bronze division last week was Elizabeth Platt not Elizabeth Betts, sorry Ladies.
The winners of the Hornsey Bowl were Louise Spruce and Kay Warner with 42 points.

Sunglasses are becoming a must-have with the fantastic weather we’ve been enjoying in recent months. One brand you’ll certainly have heard of is Oakley, which offers a stunning range of sunglasses that can improve your vision on the course while keeping you looking great off it. |
Look great wherever you go The undeniably stylish look of this Oakley Targetline model makes it one of the most versatile offerings we stock. Not only has it been designed with a fantastic lifestyle look in mind, but if you opt for Oakely’s golf-specific PRIZM lenses you’ll also benefit from maximised contrast that enhances subtle slopes and makes it easier to follow your drives into glaring sunlight. | |
