Charity parking space
The total of the three Captains drive was 604 yards, which wasn’t guessed by anyone. Either side of this guess though was Mike Wells and Bridget Moore, so a toss of a coin was held, and Bridget Moore was the winner. £132 was raised for the chairties this year, which will be Naomi House, HART and Second Chance Animal Rescue a local charity. Thank you to all that had a go.

Captains Drive-In
Thank you to everybody who joined the Captains for their Drive-In, it was great to have so many of you come along and play on such a glorious morning. The departing Captains Putt-out saw some impressive skills with June, Taylor and Damian leaving themselves tap-ins for their twos whilst Geoff narrowly missed and took the wooden spoon with a three. The scoring was the best three out of four stableford. Here are the results:
1st - Malcolm Mackenzie, Nigel Bray, Richard Arrowsmith and Danny Munro - 130pts
2nd - Andy Evans, Graham Light, Dennis Hodgetts and Wendy Evans - 129pts C/B
Nearest the Pins - Nigel Johnson (5th hole), and Jean White (12th hole)
Thank you to Doug and his team for the excellent presentation of the course and to Tracy, Scott and Chris for co-ordinating the event and changing the start sheet several times a day.

Match news
On Sunday we played our final Millennium League match at home to Royal Winchester. As a result of an excellent 6 - 2 victory, Hockley’s Millennium League team finished in an excellent third (equal) place behind the strong Broadstone and Stoneham teams. The following players represented Hockley throughout the summer:
Martin Gill, Kevin Burnett-Whalley, Indie Bilkhoo, Bob Kimber, Mark Rookyard, Andy Eley, Clive Keywood, Steve Fennell, Matthew Light, Damian Cain, Mike Black, Bernard Brombley, John Brickwood, Merrick Denton-Thompson, Drew Gibson, John Knezevich, Graham Light, Ian Smith and Steve Pullen.
A really thank you to all of these players who all contributed to some great matches.

The results through the season were as follows:
- Blackmoor (Home) - Won 5½ - 2½ - Broadstone (Away) - Lost 1½ - 6½ - Brokenhurst (Away) - Halved 4 - 4 - Barton (Away) - Won 5 - 3 - Ferndown (Away) - Halved 4 - 4 - Stoneham (Home) - Lost 3 - 5 - Hayling (Home) - Won 5½ - 2½ - Royal Winchester (Home) - Won 6 - 2
Individually, we won 30 matches, halved 10 and lost 24. |
The overall league result is as follows:
- 1st - Broadstone - 55pts - 2nd - Stoneham - 50.5pts - T3 - Hockley - 44.5pts - T3 - Ferndown - 44.5pts - 5th – Blackmoor - 44pts - 6th - Hayling - 36pts - 7th - Royal Winchester - 34.5pts - 8th - Brokenhurst - 20pts
|
|
I’d like to put out a plea to other Hockley members to please support the Millennium League matches next season and make yourself available for selection. The only restriction is that you must have a handicap between 11 and 18. We play on some of the best courses in the county and the only cost is for a meal after the match.
Once again, a really big thank you to everyone who played and made the season so successful.
Steve Pullen
