Are you winter ready?
The key to winter weather wear is layering. The goal is to stack your gear together in a way that'll keep you warm, but won't have you rollin' around town looking like the Michelin Man. Your low temp golf get-up should work the same way. Putting together the right pieces will protect you from the elements without restricting your move through the ball, we'll show you how to suit up with the right fits and fabrics, so you can keep rotating well into the off season. Below we have selected some garments for you;
Hat: Let's start at the top. Your secondary science teacher was right, you lose much of your body heat from your head so make sure to strap on a hat before your brave the frozen links.
Base layer: Every little detail counts to perform and the Under Armour Baselayer will keep you warm and comfortable, so you can play. Dual-layer ColdGear fabric ensures you stay warm with a brushed interior and fast-drying exterior. The material also provides a moisture transport system that wick moisture away from the body to ensure you always remain dry.
|
Under Armour Storm Daytona Jacket: This incredibly warm and comfortable fleece jacket will help you to perform late on into the season. Constructed with double-knit insulation panels, with internal pockets to trap warm air inside, and moisture wicking material, to ensure you remain fully focused on your game ahead.
To assist in your performance the layer has stretch shoulder panels, for greater mobility through the golf swing, and is fast drying for ever changing course conditions.
The design features a half-zip opening and has a low-profile collar, with open hand pockets for instant access.

- Ladies Centenary Medal - Helen Bailey - (nett 71) |
Junior Triangular The final round of this year’s Junior Triangular was played last weekend in cold and windy conditions. |
Despite another complete no show from Royal, Hockley and South Winchester battled the conditions to record some very good scores, Hockley were dominant though and out-scored South 175 to 162.
This won the trophy with season scores of Hockley 996, South 974, and Royal 544. My thanks go to all the players that have made the effort by volunteering and playing in some really poor conditions this year (really must try to pick better match days). The picture shows Taylor Archer with some of the Itchen College players that have played for us this season with the trophy. Colin Field Junior Organiser. |

Tip of the week - Practicing like the pros'
The best practice areas have targets that allow you to visualize the shots you're going to hit on the course, but you can give yourself even more accuracy help with three alignment sticks. Take 10 big steps down range and stab one stick into the ground directly along your target line, then place a stick three big steps left of the first, and another three big steps to the right. |
Whether you're practicing your most common shot shape or trying to make the ball curve different ways, you now have guideposts and gates for better feedback (below).
If you like to hit a fade, work on starting your shots in the middle of the left gate and having them finish on or near the centre line. For draws, do the opposite. The gates will help you learn how to control ball flight much better than just picking distant targets and firing away.
If you would like to work on any aspect of your game, please call 01962 713165(2) or click here. |

The proposed changes to the Rules of Golf are less than two months away, so we thought we'd look at one introduction which is designed to keep your round moving at a good pace...no more five hour rounds! |
Under the current Rules of Golf (27.1c), a ball is deemed lost if it has not been found or identified by the player within five minutes of beginning their search. However, under the proposed changes (18.2a), a ball is deemed lost if it is not found within three minutes - that's a 40% reduction in time allowed to search for a lost ball. Remember - if your ball strays offline or there is a good chance that you'll have trouble finding it, hit a provisional ball to maintain your group's speed of play and avoid the embarrassment of walking back to the ground behind to replay your shot. |
