Hockley Defeat Bramshaw GC In Repeat Of 2011 Final
Hockley's over 50's team beat Bramshaw 6-3 in the final of the Gales Hockley Over 50's KO on Saturday, 20 September. Played on the neutral turf of Tidworth Garrison Golf Club in benign conditions, all but one of the Hockley players were giving shots to their opponent. Although some of the matches were close at one stage, comfortable wins by Robin Webb, Alan Carpenter and Gary Whitfield gave Hockley much confidence.
Captain of the team, Robin Webb said: This is a wonderful conclusion to our Centenary Year, we have had some very close matches throughout and to win again is a great achievement.
Thanks must also be given to Tidworth Garrison Golf Club for hosting the Final and for making both teams feel so welcome.
As winners of the competition, Hockley's junior section receives a cheque for £200 to aid its development.
An enormous thank you must go to Derek Sheppard and Doug Peacock for the smooth running and organisation of the event as always.
The winner of the Grandfathers Trophy was Andy Evans with 39 points closely followed by Richard Broughton with 38 points.
Finals day took place on Sunday and the results can be found on the website and on the draw sheets in the clubhouse. Well done to all those who played and especially to the referees for giving up their time.

County Finals 2014
Hampshire proved they were the best in South Region by winning County Match Week in June, and are now officially the best in England. Mags and her team were awesome beating all 5 qualifying teams to earn a perfect 5 points. The team included our member Christine Quinn and Mags very proudly showed off the trophy when the County Ladies played at Hockley on Monday in their autumn event.
Good Luck to our Ladies playing in the North Hants trophy on Thursday, 25 September at Alresford Golf Club. Spectators/supporters very welcome.
As course maintenance commenced this week there are no major forthcoming events to announce other than the Champion of Champions event on Sunday. This will be a 'Shotgun' start at 8.45am so please note the course will be CLOSED until 1pm.
Of course there is that small event commencing on Friday 'THE RYDER CUP' and I am sure many of you will be glued to the TV or even there in person. Was it really 2 years ago when we were all sat in the clubhouse on the edge of our seats watching Europe perhaps completing the greatest ever comeback. Although many feel we are strong favourites can we pull it off again? Whatever team the American's put out, much like Pompey we know they will be hard to beat, you write them off at your peril!
Please remember even if you are not competing in the champion's event on Sunday you are very welcome to come and enjoy the atmosphere and watch the Ryder Cup in the Clubhouse.
Texas Scramble
The Autumn Texas scramble will be held on Saturday, 11 October and entries can now be made via the PSI system in either locker room, £5 per person. Please note the 'sign up' sheet WILL NOT be used this time you can now enter on the psi by selecting a 'Future competition' and follow the on screen instructions. You will be able to select a time and view other times taken. If in doubt please see Jack or Tracy for help.
Hockley Winter Foursomes
Last year saw the return of the popular Hockley Winter Foursomes. We are very lucky at Hockley in being a free draining course resulting in us not having a single course closure last winter despite it being one of the worst for many years. So in entering the Hockley Winter Foursomes we offer you the opportunity for some excellent winter competitive golf! This is an 'Open' event so please tell your friends.
Full details are on the club website or click here for an entry form and more details.
Ladies the new range of JRB winter clothing is now in and a few summer garments remain on the sale rail. I believe this good weather is here for a little while, but it does tend to be chilly first thing in the morning. We have plenty of garments for both Men and Women to keep the 'chill' out, including Base layers, Gilets and lined jumpers and even Winter weight trousers.
Good Luck to Jack in playing in the HPGA Matchplay semi-final next Monday morning and hopefully the final in the afternoon at Royal Winchester GC.
By the time you read this newsletter Chris Kilgannon will have been with us for a few days learning the ropes so please call into the shop and introduce yourselves to him.
