Loft & Lie checks and adjustments
Having the correct loft angles for your irons is vital because if your loft angles move, your 7 iron could be the same loft as your 8 iron which will lose you distance and give you an inconsistent distance gap between your irons.
Correcting the angles will make sure you have around a 10 yards distance gap between each iron making it easier to get to specific distances on the course.
If you are finding that your ball flight is curving to the right or left more than you would like, then your lie angles on your clubs could be incorrect.
So, come into the shop and get us to check them for you and make alterations to your existing clubs accordingly. Correct Lie Angles can benefit any level of golfer.

|
We can check and adjust your clubs to your specifications - £3 per club or £20 for a set of nine irons. |

Owl boxes
Please take a read of the interesting piece by member Steve Pullen: The Owl Boxes on Hockley Golf Course were originally constructed by Peter Kirby a couple of years ago, one was placed in the wood to the right of the first fairway and the second was mounted in a dead Oak tree on the practice range. The second box has been home to at least one brood of barn owls, I remember one evening in the summer of 2017 watching deer emerge from the hedge alongside the practice range and walking into the wood, they were followed by a hare that passed within six feet of where I was sitting.
Just as the light was failing, I spotted through binoculars an adult barn owl emerging from the box and flying into the trees to the right of the range. After calling to his brood, two fledgling barn owls emerged from the box and joined their parent on one of their first forays into the wild. It was an unforgettable sight.
|
Last year, the range owl box suffered damage and severe waterlogging, I’ve removed the box from the tree, thoroughly cleaned it out of owl droppings and remains of voles, mice etc. I removed the front panel of the box and replaced it with a removable panel to enable future cleaning of the box without taking it down off the tree. I reproofed the box and refixed it, high up in the tree away from any predators. The location of the box is in an ideal position with open views across short grass (the range) and longer grass and hedgerows alongside the range. This is an ideal environment for the owls to hunt their prey.
Because they are a bird of prey, at the top of the food chain, looking after barn owls means that many other small creatures and plants benefit as well, helping to create sustainable biodiversity.
I was asked to write a few words about some of the other jobs that the greenkeepers undertake. In return, please respect the location of the owl boxes and other bird boxes about the course, if you suspect that birds are visiting these boxes, please do not disturb them. Friendly matches
The ‘sign up’ sheet is now on the seniors noticeboard in the men’s locker room. Please add your name if you wish to play. These matches are open to all seniors (aged 60 and over) who have an active handicap. I will try to give everyone an equal opportunity to play, but priority will be given for away matches to those who sign up for home games.
The matches are friendly, but competitive and essentially fun and a great opportunity to play other courses. If you haven’t played in one of these matches before I would encourage you to give it a try.

The best keeps getting better |
Titleist is a brand which is synonymous with excellence, with the iconic Pro V1 and Pro V1x golf balls proving a huge success for almost two decades now. So, rather than wholesale changes to an already brilliant offering, the brand has made some subtle - yet significant - improvements for 2019, including a high optic yellow colour option! |
| Titleist Pro V1 and Pro V1x (2019) |
|
Golfers are greedy. We want to hit the ball further than ever but without giving up on anything else, such as feel or control. Well, the 2019 Pro V1 and Pro V1x golf balls will give you more ball speed and less long-game spin off the clubface compared to previous versions, which is the perfect equation for increased distance. |
Couple this with amazing short game performance, and you have two golf balls that'll provide you with everything you need on the golf course. Not sure which one to go for? Come and chat to us in-store and we'll fit you for the Titleist golf ball which best suits your game. |
