Hockley Bar and Catering Survey
Thank you to all Members who participated in our recent survey over the last month. Your time spent with Dan "face to face" is much appreciated as it has not only allowed us to get a comprehensive understanding of your thoughts, but also demonstrated to you that we are fully committed and determined to continuously improve. As you will appreciate in considering all your feedback it is not possible to implement all your suggestions immediately, but we are confident that the actions detailed below address the primary issues raised:
Opening Times
The Clubhouse is open from 6am each day when Members can get a coffee or tea from the coffee machine. The Bar and Kitchen will open at 10am during the week and 8am at weekends.
During the Winter - October 1st to April 1st, the Clubhouse will close at 6pm. At weekends during October it will stay open until 8pm.
During the Summer the Clubhouse will close at 8pm.
Food Availability at Weekends
A full Breakfast will continue to be available from 8am at weekends in the Clubhouse. "Take Away" Coffees and Bacon Rolls will also be available to take to the 1st tee.
The kitchen opening hours are being extended, with immediate effect, to 5pm during the Winter and 6pm in Summer.
Menus
The blackboard "daily specials" menu concept is popular, BUT many of you would like to see a permanently available menu. We will be actioning this as soon as is practicable in the coming weeks and have ideas on how to achieve this!
Menu Suggestions
Lots of good ideas here that Dan and Tina will look to introduce. More Healthy options, Ladies portions, thinner bread for sandwiches, consistent presentation of food - a garnish with sandwiches for example, home-made cakes…….
On a Monday when the kitchen is closed the following will be available:
Winter months - home-made soup, rolls, sandwiches and Pies.
Summer Months - salad bar in cold cabinet.
Sunday Roast
Introducing a monthly Sunday Roast, between 1pm and 3pm, seems to be popular. We will be publishing dates as soon as possible, but the first two will be on Sunday, 2 November and Sunday, 7 December so organise some golf now and book at the Bar!
Smoking on the Terrace
"NO SMOKING" signs are now placed on all but one of the tables on the terrace. There is also a new standalone upright "ash tray".
Half Way Hut
This presents some significant challenges. More feasible is a "cart/buggy" that is very common on the continent. This will be explored.
Continuity of Staff
We are now more comfortable and have a more stable team with much less dependence on "casual" staff. With the Centenary Programme of events successfully delivered, we are looking to have regular staff on at regular times wherever possible.
Tee Reservations
It has come to the notice of the Golf Committee that on a number of occasions during the summer some members have not observed the first tee reservations, and that some have tee'd off during the 'closed' period. The introduction of the First Tee Management System (FTMS) and the relevant tee closures before matches are there to enhance the playing experience at Hockley and to ensure everyone has an enjoyable round.
The Pro Team in the Golf Shop implement the tee closures and manage the first tee as an extension of the Golf Committee, and it is hoped that all members will adhere to the closures and plan their golf accordingly. Nothing is ever perfect, but your understanding and co-operation in this matter will be much appreciated. Thank you.
MacMillan Cake Sale
The MacMillan cake sale raised £145.30 Thank you to all those that made or donated cakes for this very good cause and of course those that bought them.
The Champion of champion's event took place on Sunday and 51 members enjoyed a glorious morning's golf followed by a superb 2 course meal and the presentation of trophies.
The picture shows winner of the James Braid medal, Martin Rugg receiving the James Braid "Niblick" golf club from Club Past Captain John Mahoney.
The Ladies winner of the Champions event was Sue Poulter with 41 points and the Men's winner was Murray Carter with 39 points, both were presented with a Centenary glass bowl.
A great atmosphere remained in the clubhouse whilst watching the final round of the Ryder Cup and congratulations and all credit must go to the European team. Once again they had the better players, smarter captain and a plan that was a Template of Doom for the Americans.
Don't they look lovely in red?
Hockley's North Hants Trophy team of Chris Quinn, Ellie Gardner and Jo Russell with caddy Kay Walshe, who were just beaten by Brokenhurst Manor in a tight semi-finals match at Alresford on Thursday, 25 September.
Brokenhurst went on to win the trophy.

Hockley Winter Foursomes
Last year saw the return of the popular Hockley Winter Foursomes. We are very lucky at Hockley in being a free draining course resulting in us not having a single course closure last winter despite it being one of the worst for many years. So in entering the Hockley Winter Foursomes we offer you the opportunity for some excellent winter competitive golf! This is an 'Open' event so please tell your friends.
Full details are on the club website or click here for an entry form and more details.
Our TaylorMade JetSpeed Drivers are now only £149, Fairway woods £119 and Rescue woods £109 so if you're looking for a club that promotes extreme velocity, swing speeds, club head speed and ball speed for maximum distances from the tee, then come and try our demo woods.
JetSpeed is the first driver to incorporate a 'Speed Pocket' into the design of the club head. This speed pocket doesn't speed up the face of the driver but minimises the amount of spin you get from the tee, giving you a lower trajectory and more distance. This 'Speed Pocket' still gives you outstanding distances and a noticeable power boost even if you catch the ball thin and gives you the purest strike from out of the centre of the club.

New winter FootJoy D.N.A. model
You have enjoyed the comfort of the new DNA Shoes from FootJoy this summer and they have now released a black shoe for the winter.
Each D.N.A. shoe is made from full grain leather which is lightweight and flexible allowing your feet to move fully throughout your swing while meeting the demands of being on the golf course.
You will get maximum comfort on the top of your foot from the SnugFit tongue which gives you the best fit and protection, while the MicroVent technology also in the tongue enhances your foots breathability leaving you feeling dry and comfortable throughout your rounds.
The area of the shoes which most often causes problems is around the ankle area. This 3D Foam moulds to your ankle for a customised fit and gives you great levels of comfort as you walk the fairways.
Comfort comes from the latest proprietary cushioning material and design in each D.N.A. Shoe called Fine-Tuned Foam. This is used in the Fitbed and mid sole area to give two different feels at differing areas of the shoe for better performance.
Each pair of D.N.A. Shoes are fitted with the P.I.N.S cleat system which offer you a lower profile performance giving you more stability and traction in a variety of weather conditions.
Limited 1 Year Waterproof Warranty.
