No Brexit for Hockley golfers
We have a diary date for the next visit of our French sister club Etretat on Saturday, 4 and Sunday, 5 May.
What is this twinning all about? It all started in 1985 when a group of Hockley men went on tour to northern France, on the way home they called in to the Etretat club, played the course and in the bar afterwards, following a rather liquid lunch with the Etretat President, a twinning was considered and, following a visit to Hockley the following year, born. The early years were men only but as the numbers grew ladies were invited to join in the fun.
What's involved? Obviously, the main attraction is golf - a match between the two clubs - serious golf for the Henderson putter which resides with the winning club (mostly at Hockley I am pleased to say). It would be remiss of the two clubs not to sample elegant and gourmet cuisine so a dinner (with entertainment) follows the Saturday match including the odd glass of wine, or two or.........! On Sunday we play again, this time French with English mixed teams for team prizes. Oh, and we finish with a lunch, wine if desired but not essential.
As Hockley members, anyone can participate, its good fun. You will recall I am sure the excellent article written by Richard Arrowsmith last September about his and wife Trish's experience in Etretat at the annual autumn meeting. He reported a wonderful, hospitable thoroughly enjoyable weekend in a lovely, scenic, vibrant French town. He was absolutely spot-on. I am advised that this year the French are keen to participate in numbers and hoping to conquer. To ensure that this enviable twinning continues to thrive, join us.
If you would like to know more detail please see the entry sheet in the foyer, call any of the organisers or just sign up, it's fun.

Experience the new grip sensation Have you ever replaced the grips on your clubs before? If you have, then you'll remember how much better it felt to hold onto brand new grips over the ball than old, tacky ones. If you haven't, it could be harming your scores and ability to swing with confidence. Right now, we have a fantastic promotion running in-store where you can get your 7-iron regripped for FREE! All you need to decide is whether you want a Golf Pride ALIGN grip or a CP2 Wrap. Decisions, decisions. |

Masters Draw The countdown is on till The Masters, only five weeks away and our Masters Draw is now up and running. Who are you tipping to win? Will Patrick Reed defend his title? Or could Tiger surprise us? If you’re not sure then why not enter our Masters Sweepstake.
Only £5 per ticket for your chance to win the 1st prize of over a £100 to spend in the Pro Shop. This would certainly knock a dent in the new driver or trolley you may be considering purchasing. We will also be running daily prizes of £10 each for the best and worst scores and the main prizes will go to 5th place. |
Tip of the week
This week's tip of the week is working on how to hit the punch shot. Sometimes you may require a lower penetrating ball flight, follow these few simple steps which will help you when trying to hit the ball lower. If you would like to work on this or any other aspect of your game, call us on 01962 713165(2) or click here to book your lesson today.

Please welcome Beth and be patient, there is a lot to learn. |
Captain/Pro Challenge
A very different day of weather for this week’s match, it was much cooler, and a strong wind greeted us, but the company was good. Howard Gleadow and David Atkinson with Keith Eames and Stephen Evans. All six of us were not at our best and holes were given away on a regular basis either through chipping when you could have putted, or putting when you could have chipped it, or as we all did, just didn't play a good shot. However, we were all square with Howard and Dave after nine and 4up on Keith and Stephen, the back nine was played the same way as the front, unfortunately with the golf staying scrappy. After paring 11,13 and 14 we saw off Keith and Stephen 5&4. We then threw a bogey run at Howard and Dave which they just couldn't live with and beat them 3&2. With the rain threatening we dashed back to the clubhouse for a cup of tea and some of Tom’s homemade cake, well worth a try.
Next week Derek Noyce and Roger Broadgate with Rik Arrowsmith and Malcolm Mackenzie are our opponents so with only six matches left we will look for a strong finish.

What's new? The winner of the Stableford last Thursday was Wendy Evans with 22 points. The only entrant into Saturday’s Medal was Lesley Milne who shot a nett 82. Ladies, there has been a very poor response to the Summer Knockouts, the Southgate Cup and American Tournament which can be entered on the psi in the Pro Shop.
The Spring/Summer clothing from JRB and Swing Out Sister has now arrived and will be fully displayed by the weekend. Brighten your summer wardrobe with some vibrant colour from both companies.

If your match has been played, please ensure the result has been recorded on BOTH the DRAW SHEET and the PSI. Driver technology continues to be the hot topic of conversation in the golfing world, as brands search for ways of giving us more forgiveness, greater distance and better accuracy off the tee. So, which drivers are really pushing the boundaries this year? |
Introducing G410 Plus from PING The first thing you'll notice on the G410 Plus driver is its Moveable-Weight technology on the back perimeter of the club (seen above). This allows us to custom fit you into one of three positions - draw, neutral and fade - which will promote a left, neutral or right shot direction to cancel out your destructive miss. What does that mean? Well, quite simply, more fairways hit! Finding the right club for you can be a serious game-changer and sure-fire way of lowering your scores, and the best way of doing this is by taking advantage of our professional advice during an eye-opening custom fitting. |
