Last week saw several 'FOG' delays and the course had to be closed into the morning. The Pro team are in constant radio contact with the greenkeepers out on the course who give them regular updates every 15 minutes or so.
Please be patient with all staff and we appreciate the inconvenience to your game, but it is for 'everyone's' safety that we do not let you out onto the course. Whilst waiting to play the club will offer you a FREE cup of tea or coffee.
If a large group are waiting to play the Pro team will implement the 'First Tee Management System', thus avoiding queues on the tee. Thankyou for your understanding.
Hockley v Magnolia Park
Since moving to Winchester, David Longbottom, our Course & Marketing Member, has arranged in each of the last three years a home and away four ball better ball fixture between a group of Hockley members and his previous club Magnolia Park in Buckinghamshire, where he was formerly President.
On Tuesday last week and at the sixth attempt Hockley enjoyed their first victory (5-2) and David is shown holding the trophy for which the match is played.
I think the body language of both David Longbottom & the Magnolia player in the bottom right of the picture sum this up rather appropriately.
Millennium League
The Hockley Team won their first away match, against Barton-on-Sea on Sunday by the excellent margin of 5 and a half to 2 and a half. A really good performance by the whole team, and even the 2 losses were very close, having to give away more shots to the opposition than in any other match.
Please Note:

Hockley Winter Foursomes
Last year saw the return of the popular Hockley Winter Foursomes. We are very lucky at Hockley in being a free draining course resulting in us not having a single course closure last winter despite it being one of the worst for many years.
So in entering the Hockley Winter Foursomes we offer you the opportunity for some excellent winter competitive golf! This is an 'Open' event so please tell your friends. Full details are on the club website or click here for an entry form and more details.
New In
Hockley logo dual canopy umbrellas in blue or black, only £26.99. This is perfect timing for the weather forecast this week! Also FootJoy's new Raingrip Extreme gloves, these gloves provide enhanced grip and control in the most extreme wet or humid conditions.
Thousands of tiny gripping 'fingers' engage with the grip to increase traction and maintain control. The wetter they are the better the grip!
To make room for our winter stock we have added more lines to the SALE rail outside the shop and have reductions on a Ladies Nike shoes, selected Men's FootJoy shoes and golf bags.
Equipment MOT
Now is the time to give your equipment an MOT, including the lofts and lies of your clubs.
If you have one or two clubs within your iron set that do not perform as well as the others then it could be that the lie angles have moved over time. You may also have poor distance gaps between your irons so it is worth having the lofts checked too.
We can check and change your set for £20 on our Loft and Lie machine. At the same time we can check your grips to see if they are worn and shiny. A worn grip causes you to grasp the club tighter, causing arm and wrist tension that inhibits proper swing mechanics and leads to a loss of power and control.
I am offering a 10% discount when you have 10 or more re grips done.
To avoid slipping in the wet weather please check your studs are not worn on your shoes, we can re stud your shoes for a small fitting fee of £2.
