Captain/Pro Challenge
Our last weekend and we went out with a bang, our opponents were Paul Brown and Adie Nicol with Nick Bell and Chris Boswell. As most of our games recently they were both really close and at the turn we were 3up on Paul and Adie and level with Nick and Chris, after 11 we were 2up on Paul and Adie and 1dn to Nick and Chris.
This week our turning point came on 12, Paul and Nick missed the green taking four and the Captain holed a putt from 20ft for birdie to get us to 3up and back to level. We then traded holes with Nick and Chris over the next two holes to be level stood on 15th tee, as for Paul and Adie we halved 13, 14 and after the Captain rolled our 3rd shot within gimme range and Paul and Adie made bogey, we were victorious 4&3. However, Nick and Chris were not going away due to some great chipping and putting, but we finally made a breakthrough on 16 when the Captain knowing he had two putts to win the hole from 3ft decided to take them. So, 1up with two to go, a half on 17 after Chris holed from 8ft sent us down 18 where a solid par was good enough to close out the match in our favour.
On behalf of Nigel and myself can we thank everybody who took us on and gave so generously to Nigel's charity, we hope you have enjoyed yourselves as much as we have? Obviously, those pairs that beat us did and those who we managed to get past maybe not so much. Our record was played: 36 lost 10 so pretty good and we only lost two of the last 22!
Many thanks Nigel it's been emotional, the grand final is on Sunday, 7 April and those who have qualified will be hearing from Nigel soon, we look forward to seeing you again.

Represent the Club
The Duff Putter has been re-scheduled to Tuesday, 16 April due to the course maintenance this week.
The Seniors friendly matches got underway during ‘Storm Gareth’ with an away loss at Barton on Sea (2.5 to 3.5) and a home win against Lee on the Solent (5:1). Both matches were very windy, but thankfully dry. Additional players are always welcome, and you now have the choice of the sign-up sheet in the clubhouse which goes up to Monday, 3 June, or you can enter online(follow the steps below).
- Go to Competitions - Matches - You need to join the "seniors friendlies" squad first, then you can update your availability. To join a squad, go to - View all squads" and click on "join".
I have already enrolled everyone who has signed up on the clubhouse sheet.

Family Foursomes
12 pairs took part in this year’s annual Family Foursomes competition. On a warm and almost wind-free Sunday there were some very impressive scores returned.
In third place were the ever-competitive brothers, Rich and Dave Gillespie scoring 37 points which was helped by an eagle on the 18th. Runners-up with 38 points were one of our recent Hockley Winter Foursomes winners, Paul Mantell with his son-in-law Glenn Taylor who plays his golf at Royal Winchester.
However, leading the way with a magnificent 40 points were previous winners’ husband and wife Bridget and Steve Moore who are pictured receiving the trophy from Captain Nigel.

In his acceptance speech Steve was quick to praise the condition of the course and thanked Tracy and I for putting the event together. Thank you to John Fisher for being on stand-by in case of any last-minute withdrawals.

Sometimes it's not only their golfing ability that impresses us when watching the world's best on TV, but also the stylish clothing that they wear. Golfers, like Dustin Johnson, always wear the latest golf-specific clothing to give them an edge on the course, as you can see below. |
| Dustin Johnson | adidas clothing
|
|
adidas' latest collection for spring/summer '19 oozes style and is, without doubt, one of their best clothing ranges to date. As well as boasting a regular fit that is wider at the body - something that we think will be a big winner amongst many of you - adidas has also added some striking contrast through the use of a High-Res Yellow colour. You too can dress like DJ or style yourself on Garcia by popping into the shop and taking a look at the full adidas collection in-store. |
