Welcome to another exciting edition of the weekly newsletter bringing you up to date with all the latest news and offers from Hockley Golf Club. I hope you've all had a good week on and off the golf course and enjoy the sunshine that has at last returned. Enjoy the read. |
Etretat update
As an Etretat virgin, I just wanted to reiterate what was said in the newsletter last week. I would highly recommend any Hockley member to join this fabulous weekend. Rob and I had such a great time and thoroughly enjoyed the jovial manner in which the games were played. The French were a delightful bunch of people, and to my delight, they all spoke reasonable English - so no awkward silences! The Captain’s did a fabulous job and rallied the troops at the appropriate times. The food was absolutely excellent, and it was great to watch the French cleaning their plates with gusto. Tony and Carole Cullen were outstanding and the organisation was fabulous. Thank you to everyone who took part, from the bar staff and the chefs, to the lovely ladies who did the floral decorations, and to Hockley for hosting it. If you were wondering about joining in, then do please do so, you will not regret it. Viv Stevens |

The future is bright
The Junior section played the second of this season’s Triangular matches over the weekend in sunshine and with Hockley at its glorious best. Two new additions to the squad, Brandon and Gabe both played really well with 29 and 33 points respectively, a super 39 from Ollie and a superb 42 from Riley (with a blob) helped secure a massive lead of 43 points over South and 70 over Royal, an excellent result so well done all. I’m sure that Riley will be looking forward to a significant handicap reduction.
The next match is Greenjackets at the end of the month, a tough game against the IOW team Westridge.

New names are always welcome
The next sign-up sheet for the Senior’s friendlies is now up in the clubhouse, and new names are always welcome. You can either use the tick sheet, or show your availability online using our Intelligent Golf system (sign on to Hockley's website, go to Competitions - Matches - join the seniors friendlies squad if you are not already a member, then set your availability.
The first leg of the Triangular was played on Tuesday, 7 May at Royal Winchester, and Hockley is currently in second place behind Royal. The Hockley leg is on Tuesday, 11 June, so we hope to make up the deficit then.
Our last two away matches at Stoneham and Hayling Island were both defeats, but greatly enjoyed by all. I have to mention Stoneham Senior Captain Tony Nutley's nett two on the first hole.

Sergio Garcia's career to date has been nothing short of phenomenal. The Spaniard is a 10-time winner on the PGA Tour and a 15-time winner on the European Tour, he donned a Green Jacket in 2017 after picking up his maiden Major triumph at the Masters, and he is now Europe's all-time record point scorer in Ryder Cup history. |
The 1 constant throughout Some of you may recognise the above image of Sergio, as he recreates one of his most famous moments from Medinah in 1999. Ever since he turned professional, Garcia has trusted adidas Golf on his journey to golfing greatness - a brand that you'll also find in your very own pro shop.
