It's worth a go!
There are still draws for fourball vouchers for Royal Winchester, Corhampton and Romsey golf clubs at £1 or £2 per square. A maximum of 50 squares are sold per voucher so the odds are good, it’s worth a go. Make sure you watch out for new offers, with all the proceeds going to the Captains charities. See the Pro Shop staff for more details.
A new draw to win a large quantity of meat is now available from the bar, £5 for a strip of tickets and again the proceeds will go to the Captain charities. As with the fourball draws, these are bargains and well worth a go. Please support these offers.

What a win!
The junior team of Luke Evans, Ollie Stuart and Riley Miller played against the IOW team of Westridge this weekend in the second round of Greenjackets. With the best two stableford scores from three to count they outscored Westridge 74 - 67, a great result against a very good team. The visitors were very complimentary about the course and hospitality but mostly about the courtesy of our team, that's a great thing to hear from opponents so well-done guys, keep up the good work. There is always room for more
Last week we played two very enjoyable away matches in glorious weather. At Brokenhurst we achieved a rare away win, followed by a defeat at Rowlands Castle a few days later. I'm pleased to see we now have 46 players to call on, but there is always room for more. Over half of you are now using the online system to indicate your availability. The second sign-up sheet is now in the clubhouse, and if you'd rather use that, no problem, I will update the system for you.

Veterans Cup
The winner of the Seniors Veterans Cup and retaining the trophy was Mike Chilcott with 36 points, however there is a twist to this event as you add a point on for every year you are over 70. Mike being 85 years young added 15 points to his score so romped away with the trophy on 51 points. Mike was closely followed by Trevor Scott who is 81 with 47 points. Well done to both these gents, I’m sure I won’t still be playing 18 holes at your age and without a buggy. |
Normal service resumes
As normal service resumed at Hockley, after the excitement and distraction of County Championship Week, congratulations to Louise Spruce, winner of the Pope Cup with a splendid 67 nett and to the runner-up, Beverly Huke, 69 nett. The two Stableford competitions were won by Helen Bailey and Wendy Evans respectively, both players scoring 35 points. Well done to both.
As we look forward to a busy summer sporting calendar, just a reminder of a few important dates here at Hockley; sign -up sheets are already posted in the changing room for Ladies Day on Thursday, 27 June and for Ladies Invitation Day on Tuesday, 16 July and I do hope you will be able to join us on those rather special days in our year. A plea too for your support and participation in a slightly different, but equally special event - Championship Day on Sunday, 9 June; information and sign-up sheets will be posted this week. And finally, hot off the press, a fine win for our team in the first round of the Alresford Scratch Trophy, defeating the Army G.C. 9-6. Well done Chris, Helen, Judie, Julie and Jose!

The term 'gapping' is commonly used to refer to the yardage distance between each of the wedges in your bag. We want to break this thought process and get you to think about gapping for your entire set, because any unequal gaps between clubs will have a detrimental impact on your game. |
Gapping at the top end One part of your set that needs careful consideration is how you transition from your irons into your woods. Lots of golfers struggle to hit their longer irons and instead opt for a replacement hybrid or driving iron, which can lead to large gaps between clubs if you're not careful. So, what's the solution? Well, take advantage of our services and professional advice, and we'll make sure you have the perfect club/s to fill any gaps at the top end of your bag. |
What are your options? TaylorMade recognised the problem that many golfers have in this area and brought GAPR to market to help them fix it. There is a GAPR Hi option, which is most like a hybrid in shape and offers extreme distance with a high trajectory. This is followed by GAPR Mid, which is somewhere between a hybrid and a long iron. It offers a slightly lower trajectory than the Hi and is perfect for hitting off tees or off the deck. Finally, the GAPR Lo is for the better ball strikers as its smaller profile provides excellent shot-shaping and workability from a penetrating trajectory. |
