Putting things right Sometimes, it's the most obvious things that get overlooked. When it comes to golf, the club most used in a round is a putter so surely it's the part of the game that deserves most attention? We know this isn't a reality for many, but a combination of working hard on your stroke and having a putter that is suited to your stroke type will certainly improve your chances on the greens - two things that this promotion is all about. Veterans Salver
The winner of the Ladies Veterans Salver played last Tuesday was Gill Quick with 33 points, beating Helen Vidal Allen on a countback. |
Ladies Day The first Ladies Day Event was held on Thursday, 27 June. This event has replaced the traditional Lady Captain’s Day and was well supported with 48 ladies playing in the competition and 60 attending the tea afterwards. |
The day was organised by Alex Pugh and Sally Carter and ran like clockwork, they not only manned the gazebo at the 11th tee to provide some much-needed refreshments, but also sourced the prizes, and ensured that the day ran smoothly. With challenging playing conditions, the nearest the pin prize on the 5th for Silver division players was won by Louise Spruce and the nearest the pin on the 12th for Bronze players was won by Sue Blackburn. The overall winners were Beverley Huke; Alison Coulter and Debbie Emery with a score of 67 points, pictured with Alex Pugh and Sally Carter.

Pro-Am
On the hottest day of the week, 32 teams took part in the Pro-Am, some made up of members teams, but mostly Pro’s bringing their own teams.
Thank you to my team of the past - Damian Cain, the present - Nigel Newman and the future – Sean Dolphin, Captains for playing, we managed fifth place in the team prizes, with 14 under par. Many thanks to you guys for a great day. The event was won by Dan Seymour a professional at Donnington Grove Golf Club with a score of 66, 5 under.
There were numerous comments on how good the course was, so my thanks to Doug Tate and all his staff for their hard work. To Tom for the excellent and well-received BBQ after play, to Liv and the bar team for keeping us fed and well-watered all day.

Knockout competitions
A reminder that the 3rd ROUND of the CANDLESTICKS is to be played by SUNDAY, 7 JULY and there will be NO EXTENSIONS.
If your match has been played, please ensure the result has been recorded on BOTH the DRAW SHEET and the PSI. If the winners are not posted by the round completion date the game could be assumed not to have been played and therefore both players/teams could be subject to elimination. WINNERS: please check that the win has been posted

Weekend results
Saturday’s Men’s Stableford attracted a good entry with some excellent scoring taking place in all three divisions. Murray Ellis pipped Dave Daish on countback to win Division One with 38 points, Rob Tobin fired 36 points in Division Two to claim top spot whilst Ross Hall came out on top in Division Three with 38 points. Due to low entry, Sunday’s Medal was processed as one division. Ed Player fired a superb nett 65 to win, great playing Ed. |
Entering scores
Can we politely remind you that it is the player's responsibility to enter their score after play, if you DO NOT enter your score you will be disqualified. If the psi is NOT working, please hand your card to any member of the Pro team and if the shop or clubhouse are closed then put your card in the green box outside the shop and we will enter your score. Thank you |

Reading between the lines |
One of the hardest things in golf is green reading; it is also something that the majority of golfers never learn how to do properly. So, without giving away all the secrets, here are some handy tips to help keep you on track and hole more putts. |
High and low Prior to reaching the green, take note of the high and low points of the surface and where your ball lies in respect to these. This will help you to build a general picture before reaching your ball. 360 picture
If you’re struggling to read which way your putt breaks from behind the ball, try walking around to the other side of the hole as this can often highlight any breaks you may have missed or reaffirm your original read. Utilise our expertise
To really master the art of putting, book a coaching session with us and benefit from our years of experience as PGA professionals. Here we will teach you the in-depth steps to improving your green reading skills.
