Now the days are much shorter and playing time has been reduced, the First Tee Management System WILL be used EVERY weekend. It has been brought to our attention that this weekend some members did not adhere to the booking requirements, so the Golf Committee have asked me to reiterate that - ALL your playing partners MUST be present when checking into the Pro Shop.

The launch of the monthly Sunday Roast last week was a sell out! Over 30 members enjoyed a choice of either roast Pork or Chicken followed by either a Crumble, lemon posset or Syrup Sponge and Coffee. Already bookings have been taken for December 7th, so why not book in after your golf or just come for lunch between 1pm and 4pm?

A gentle reminder there will be NO breakfasts available this weekend, only bacon rolls, this is due to the centenary dinner taking place on Saturday.

Preferred Lies (Winter Rules) is now in operation. This means you can mark your ball on the fairway, clean it and replace it within 6 inches of where you marked it.

Steps on the Course

It is our intention during the Winter Programme of works to either remove or make safe the steps on many of the tees. You will have seen this work has already started.

Please be as careful as possible during this transitional phase as clearly we cannot rectify all the steps at once, and with all this rain about they can become treacherous very quickly. Every effort is being made to expedite this work we assure you.

The full results of the John Simpson competition played on Friday, Saturday and Sunday can be found on the website, but the best score of the 3 days went to Peter Eagles with an amazing 45 points.

Qualifying Rounds

We would like to remind you that you must have played in 3 qualifying competitions from March 1st 2014 to February 28th 2015 to retain a 'Competition' handicap. If you have not or are not able to, you may of course do a 'Supplementary' card. Please sign in the pro shop BEFORE you do a card and return to us after play.

Please note the following conditions:

Players in Handicap Categories 2, 3, 4 and [5] may return up to a maximum of ten Supplementary Scores annually.

A player in Category 1 with a Non-Competition handicap on the 1st March may return up to a maximum of three Supplementary Scores to regain a Competition handicap.

A player in Category 1 with a Competition handicap on the 1st March may not return any Supplementary Scores until September 1st and then only as many as required up to a maximum of three, in order to retain a Competition handicap.

Last Friday Chris had 6 ladies attend his first group coaching session. This relaxed fun session focused on the different types of shots of chipping and putting fundamentals. They also focused on a 5 minute practice session that will help improve consistency. There will be more sessions coming soon for men and women so watch this space. Chris looks forward to meeting you all.

Last Wednesday Chris and I held a junior coaching day for 12 junior's ranging in ages from 4 - 16, Oh and one grandad, Richard Arrowsmith, age not to be disclosed!

Despite the awful weather, a lot of noise and excitement was created on the range and in the clubhouse. Many thanks to Tina for supplying the chips at lunchtime. We hope to run another session in the 2015 February half term.

Saturday, 8 November the Centenary dinner will take place at 7pm, we apologise for the slight disruption to the clubhouse whilst tables are set up for the 100 guests.

Sunday, 9 November the first round of the Winter Foursomes will be played, so please note the COURSE will be closed until 9.15am.

11am on the 11th November

To commemorate both our Centenary and those that lost their lives in the First World War, the Head Master of Winchester College and our President will be conducting a short ceremony by the 5th tee from 10:45am. It will culminate in the planting of a ceremonial Oak, unveiling of a specially commissioned bench and two minutes silence at 11am. All members are welcome to attend and those that are playing golf at the time are encouraged to break their round if they are in the vicinity or at least honour the two minutes silence.

Winter League

This competition will be open to all seven day members (Men, Ladies & Juniors) with active handicaps and entry will be via the PSI system as individuals, £6 per player. Closing date for entries is November 15th.
