Tip of the Week Saving shots around the green
The season is coming to a close which means it’s more important than ever to work on the parts of your game that have been letting you down. Maybe you aren’t getting enough distance on your drives or perhaps your chipping isn’t up to scratch? Either way, we are to help, try these tips on better wedge play to start. Chris is on holiday so no video tip this week, however, he did find the time to send in this tip for you:
If you dread any form of pitch or chip shot then this is for you and if you feel like you could save a few more strokes around the greens, utilising better technique will literally make these shots easier. Here are a few straightforward improvements that will get the job done:
Set-Up: - Your feet should be close together, the most common mistake I see is a stance that's too wide - Alignment should be square - Ball position is centered to slightly forward - Weight distribution is slightly favouring the front foot
Wrist Action: - Wrists should be relatively quiet in the backswing. Avoid excessive cupping in the lead wrist
Body Pivot: - Keep the chest rotating through the strike in order to shallow the attack angle - Extend the lead side through impact - Avoid thoughts of "stay down", "hit down" or "pinch the ball"
As you work towards better technique, be aware that your results are not going to transition from bad to good instantaneously. Taking ownership of the upgrades will take time and patience. Get the set up correct, use the wrists properly, and shallow the angle of attack with good chest rotation.
If you find yourself making poor decisions out on the course, then come and book a playing lesson and we can help you with course management. Call us on 01962 713165(2) or click here to book your lesson today with one of our professionals. |

Winchester Triangular
The annual Winchester Triangular took place in the blazing hot sun on Saturday at the three courses, with South Winchester hosting the event. Hockley has a superb record in this competition and ran out winners again by a convincing 41 points. The final scores were Hockley 886, South Winchester 845 and Royal 832.
A huge thank you to all who supported the event and a special thanks to Sean Dolphin for organising the Hockley participation, Trevor Nice (and Fern) for starting the competitors off and of course huge thanks to Adrian Nicol who did the registration and scoring at Hockley all day.
The winners all received a small memento of the day and any players who didn’t receive theirs on the day can collect them from the office. Individual Hockley prize winners were Riley Miller (35), Harvey Pratt (42), John Fisher (39) and Kay Warner (40), with next year’s defence is at Royal Winchester. |

Revealed: Our top driver of 2019 |
Looking for a new driver this year? There is plenty of choice out there so why not grab a coffee, take five and watch our latest video on why Callaway’s Epic Flash has set our pulses racing this year? |
“The Epic Flash offers excellent ball speed” Not for the first time this year we are raving about Callaway’s Epic Flash driver, where Artificial Intelligence has played a major role in creating a radical face design known as Flash Face: “Flash Face is designed to give you maximum amount of ball speed across the face” And it certainly does that, especially on off-centre hits! One swing of the club and we reckon you'll be hooked as the added bonus of the beautiful green, black and yellow colourway leaves us drooling when taking it out of the bag. So, now is the time for you to come down and demo the Epic Flash driver and let us correctly set-up the club to suit your swing during a custom fitting session.
