Our men’s teams are in action this weekend in finals of the Beckford Bowl at Broadstone Golf Club and the Parkstone trophy (over 55’s) at Parkstone Golf Club, both on Sunday 15th September and supporters are more than welcome. Captain’s Finale "As my Captain’s Year is fast coming to a close, my final social event will be on Friday 27th September in the clubhouse with a 7.00pm for 7.30pm start. As always, all profits will go to the captain’s charities. Phil Holt, a professional after-dinner speaker, will be delivering a talk on The History of Aviation and the Red Arrows. There will also be the long-awaited Captain’s Auction which will include a signed Saints shirt, a huge selection of fourball vouchers and the auction of the bar and catering staff as caddies and our chef Tom for your dinner party! There will also be a raffle on the night and the £22.00 ticket will include wine on the tables and a tapas-style cuisine. The poster and sign-up sheet is now available on the notice board together with full details of the evening.
If you would like to bid as part of the auction but can’t make the evening event, sealed bids will be accepted. I look forward to seeing you during the evening." Nigel Newman

Swing Out Sister at Hockley Swing Out Sister will be again holding a ‘Pop up shop’ tomorrow Thursday, 12 September from 10:00am – 3:00pm, a chance to see their full Autumn/Winter range.
New stock Also new in, the Ladies JRB & Swing Out Sister Autumn/Winter clothing in. JRB are offering grey and cornflower blue tones, whilst Swing Out Sister have Autumn brown and mustard tones.

Ladies competitions A small entry into the 2nd round of the Habin Cup on Thursday and the winner was Wendy Evans with a nett 76 on a countback from Jose Kellenberger. The overall winner of the Habin Cup is Alison baker. Another small entry into the Chilbolton Cup and the winner was Monica Finlayson with 35 points on a countback from Susie Dryden.
Annual Meeting Notices about the Annual Meeting and Annual Election Meeting - on 15 October - have now been posted in the changing room. Another new venture for the Ladies Section - both of our closing events of the season will be on the same day and the AEM in the afternoon - we hope that you will be able to participate, and we look forward to seeing you.
Success Hockley Golf Club enjoyed success in the Corhampton Ladies Centenary Shield held last Tuesday 3rd September. Out of a field of 32 clubs, Hockley came second overall and only narrowly beaten by RWGC. Congratulations to the morning pair of Gill Quick; Wendy Greenhalgh; and the afternoon pair of Kay Warner and Anne Gleadow. Hockley also entered the Hayling Island Ladies Centenary Shield on Thursday 5th September. The team played in difficult conditions and were not placed. Kate Colwill

Recent results The winner of the Grandfathers Trophy played last Thursday, Friday, and Saturday was Danny Francis with 40points. The Men's Midweek Medal was won by Tim Bell with a nett 69. With one more medal to be played before presentation day, Steve Fennell is leading the Aggregate Cup (the best five nett scores from selected medals) on 385. Leading the Chairmans Cup (the best five gross scores from selected medals) is again Steve Fennell on 479.

Seniors Open Our Seniors Open was held on a sunny, but very windy 4th September. We had 75 entries, about the most we can cope with using a two tee start supervised by our starters Graham Light and Geoff Roberts. 18 were from Hockley and 57 from 33 different clubs around the country. The Hockley plate was won by Tony Crawford with 38 points, beating Bill Harrison and Gordon Dewis on countback. The visitor's trophy was won by Nigel Tibbitt from Golf at Goodwood with 39 points. Dave Morgan and Wendy Greenhalgh ran the raffle which raised £455 for the Captain's charities, and everyone enjoyed Tom's carvery afterwards.

There were many complimentary comments about the course which continues to be in superb condition, thanks to our excellent Greenkeeping team. My thanks to Graham Light, Geoff Roberts and Tracy for their assistance throughout the day and for inputting the scores.
Seniors matches We have had two good home wins recently, 6:0 against Brokenhurst on 30 August, and 4:2 against High Post on Friday, 6 September. Many thanks to all the seniors who continue to support these enjoyable matches. |
Sonny Sharpe Trophy In sunny and chilly conditions a field of 38 teed off in this year's Sonny Sharpe Trophy. After the recent maintenance week, the course is getting back to its best and our thanks go to Doug and his team for all of their hard work. The morning medal round proved to be very close with 10 players shooting nett level par or better with Howard Barton leading the way on 66 with Richard Gillespie, 68, and Chris Hyde, Adie Bell and Dan Mould hot on Howard's heels with 69's. The afternoon stableford round was just as competitive with 10 players shooting nett level par or better. Once the afternoon stableford points were deducted from the morning nett medal score our overall winner was Adie Bell with a final total of 29 (69-40). Runner up was Alex Olney with 32 (70-38) closely followed by Chris Hyde on 33 (69-36) and morning leader Howard Barton on 34 (66-32) who pipped Dan Mould (69-35) and Dan Kelly (70-36) on countback for the medal round.

They've done it again When a product has been the centre of a range for over a decade you know it must be pretty special, right? We certainly think so and it can be said of the Srixon AD333 golf ball, which is now into its ninth generation. How does it differ? - Sunday, 29 September - Champion of Champions is now open for entry in the foyer. Sign up if you have won a competition from October 2018 to now. It is an 18-hole qualifying stableford and includes a one-course meal after play and of course the major trophies will be presented.
