Preferred Lies now in operation - Local Rule When a player's ball lies in a part of the general area cut to fairway height or less (excluding the putting surface), the player may take free relief once by placing the original ball or another ball in and playing it from the relief area:
Reference Point: Spot of the original ball. Before lifting the ball, the player must mark its position.
Relief Area Measured from Reference Point: Having lifted the ball, the player may clean the ball and must place it on a spot within six inches, of and not nearer the hole than the reference point, and must be in the general area.
In proceeding under this Local Rule, the player must choose a spot to place the ball and use the procedures for replacing a ball under Rules 14.2b(2) and 14.2e.
Penalty for Playing Ball from a Wrong Place in Breach of Local Rule: General Penalty Under Rule 14.7a.

Lost club Have you picked up any lost clubs out on the course recently? A member has lost a Cobra pitching wedge and would like to be reunited with it. Please, could you all check your bags and if found return to the pro shop. Thank you.

How do you fancy your very own parking space for a year? Well for only a £1 it’s well worth a go, all you need to do is guess the combined drives of all four incoming captains, Sean Dolphin, Gill Quick, David Morgan and Oliver Stuart, the entry sheet is on the bar. The draw will take place after the ‘Drive-In’ competition and all proceeds are going to the new captain’s charities.

Staff news Paul sent out this e-mail on Monday and I would like to thank all those members who have taken the time to send me congratulations, it’s very thoughtful of you. I have the final event on Thursday at Rowlands Castle Golf Club. “On Friday, 4 October, our Head Professional Gary Stubbington won the PGA in Hampshire Order of Merit with an event to spare. On behalf of Hockley Golf Club, I congratulate him receiving this accolade 30 years after his last Order of Merit win. An award he truly deserves with all the dedication to his profession and his continued support for Hockley Golf Club.
We look forward to seeing if he can retain the title next season.”

The half-zip allows for easy on/off as weather conditions change and the added Hockley logo makes this a very smart garment.
