Keep warm this winter

As soon as the clocks change so does the weather, I was very surprised to see ice on the car on Monday morning. So, the winter dress must come out!

Note from the Ladies Captain...

There was an error in the newsletter last week when I wrongly stated that Marion Vincent had played in the Legg Bowl the previous week. The winning bronze pair were Jean White and Anne Gleadow. My apologies to Jean for getting this wrong.

Finally, the last major competition of the season; The Past Captains Cup is on Wednesday, 30 October. However, players are still competing in the Daily Mail Foursomes Bowl; The Toogood Cup and the Elkington Knife. There is also a 9-hole Stableford competition on Thursday, 31 October.

2019 Kelly Salvers Mixed Greensomes Stableford

The 2019 Kelly Salvers Mixed Greensomes Stableford Competition was played on Tuesday, 22 October, in warm sunshine.

In near perfect conditions, twelve ladies and their twelve drawn seniors’ partners, battled it out to win the Salvers, first presented in 1985.

In third place with 34 points were Helen Vidal-Allen and David Greenhalgh, runners up with 35 points, Viv Stevens with Tony Cullen, but this year’s champions with 36 points and recipients of the Kelly Salvers were Jean White and her partner Graham Light.

The emptied plates from the after-match meal, accompanied by the uproarious noise level in the dining room, was a true indicator that all who took part thoroughly enjoyed themselves.

As our new Club Captain Sean Dolphin said after the Captains’ Drive-in, ‘these are the type of competitions that generate a club atmosphere and we should plan to have more of them’.

John Simpson 1st Card

The John Simpson 1st Card was played from Friday to Sunday and the best score over the three days was Matt Chalke on Sunday with 43 points, beating, Keith Bloxsome, Christopher Giles and Lee Griffiths on countback.

I am now signing off for twelve days as Tracy and I take our annual holiday, but I will be leaving the newsletter and the shop in the very capable hands of Chris, James and occasionally Colin.

Which do you prefer?
