A traditional start... Well a new captain, a new year, unfortunately, the traditional start with two loses! In Sean and my defence, we were only one over when we lost both matches on a cold and windy day, so we played nicely. Our slayers were Riley Miller with his grandad Colin field and Brandon Perrett and his grandad Kim Perrett who all played terrific golf. Kim and Brandon beat us on 15 by 4&3 and never really hit a bad shot and putted lovely, holing a number of very important putts which definitely was the difference between us. Colin and Riley did give us the occasional little glimmer of hope but soon extinguished any chance of us getting back into the game, after Riley pitched up within gimme range on 17, our afternoon was over, and they won 2&1. It was great to see the youngsters hitting the ball so well and I’m sure in these lads, the future of Hockley is in good hands. Our challenging match on Saturday against three of the Beckford Bowl winners in my son Jack, Club Champion Luke Hodgetts with Paul Brown and Adrian Nicol was cancelled due to the weather and has been re-scheduled.

Past Captains' Autumn Meeting The re-scheduled Past Captains' Autumn Meeting took place last Wednesday, 30 October. It was a great relief to the thirteen ladies who played in the morning that the weather, if windy and a little chilly, was, at least dry. The conditions were not easy, so my congratulations to Kay Walshe, winner of the Wendy Johnson Trophy with 34 points and to the runners-up, Sue Poulter and Nicky Stilwell, with 32 and 31 points, respectively. Three more past captains joined us for the delicious lunch which followed to round off a very pleasant occasion.

Legg Bowl Well done to Julie Finn, Debbie Emery, Jean White and Sue Blackburn who beat Blackmoor in the Legg Bowl, eight-up, away at Blackmoor. Great win at an away course. Now waiting to see if we have Romsey or South Winchester in the next round.
