Cometh the Hour, Cometh the Man...
On a horrible Sunday, the weather once again impacted the golf. Our opponents were Alan Carpenter and Pat Lawson with Danny Munro and David Greenhalgh, who filled in at the last minute. As has happened on many occasions, we were down in both matches early but managed to get back to level with Alan and Pat and two up on Danny and David. On ten, David and Danny lost a ball and which gave us some momentum, an important factor in high-level sport. The Captain and I then won the next few holes to finish the game on 14. Now the other game stayed close all the way around, but the captain provided a moment that was pivotal to the game. On 16, Pat had chipped up to about ten feet, so Alan had to putt for par. We had a putt from 30-feet for birdie and Sean holed it - in those conditions, it was a great putt. After we had all chipped onto 17 in the midst of strong winds that prevented us from getting on two, we both two-putt to give us a 2 and 1 victory. Our next game is against the doctors, Martin Mitchell and Tony Crawford, and also Paul Downing with Alan Darlington.

Competition news
I start with an apology. Dave Gillespie won the Long Course Stableford last weekend, not his brother Richard.
On a wet Sunday, the Short Course Stableford had a small entry and the results were:
Division One The winner was Martin Gill with 42 points.
Division Two The winner was Sam Wilson with 41 points.

Fun Morning
The second of the ladies’ fun mornings was held on Thursday, 23 January. A record 28 ladies participated in a light-hearted Florida Scramble, held in teams of four. The winning team consisted of Kathie Killingley, Bridget Moore, Jean White and Wendy Evans. Although the weather was rather cold and damp, everyone enjoyed the golf and the welcome hot drink in the clubhouse afterwards. Thanks to Helen Vidal Allen for another well-organised competition.
Senior's and Itchen College competition
On Wednesday, 26 February, Geoff Roberts and David Morgan are organising a match with 11 golfing students from Itchen College Golf Academy. They would like 11 ladies to join them in a format of 11 teams each with a senior member; a lady member and a student from the golf Academy. There will be a light meal afterwards.
If anyone is interested in playing in this match, please sign up on the list in the ladies changing room, or email Kay Walshe to say you are interested.
Stoneham Cup and friendly matches
Please sign up for these events.
You can go online and indicate your availability for any of the Stoneham Cup and friendly matches under the competitions banner. It would be great to get more members involved in the teams this year.
