Winter Foursomes The Hockley Winter Foursomes played in the new 18-hole Stableford format, took place on Sunday. Unfortunately, two no shows from visiting members caused problems, but thankfully mobile phone technology came to the rescue with a couple of last-minute calls to the groups out on the course to move their starting tees for the shotgun start. With sunny and breezy conditions, a field of 24 pairs took up the challenge. Once again, many compliments were received from the visitors regarding the excellent conditions of our course. We should all say a big thank you and well done to Doug and his team for the hard work carried out through the wet winter months. With the course playing long into the wind, only two teams managed to break par. In third place with 35 points were Hockley pair Mike Henry and Martin Gill. Runners up, losing on countback (18), with 37 points were Jack Marsh and Ben Bright from Paultons and winners of The Winter Foursomes with 37 points with a better back nine (19) were the Hockley pair of George Stanford and Phil Bull. Due to the Coronavirus situation, there was no formal prize-giving ceremony, but George and Phil were able to collect their trophies from the table. Many thanks to Liv and the team for the after match "takeaway" drinks service, to Paul Brown for setting up the competition and to Tracy for all of her help on the day. I would like to thank everybody who took part in the competition and for adhering to the social distancing recommendations. Adie Nicol. Competitions & Handicaps.
Again, we must thank Adie for giving up his time on Sunday, where would we be without him?
