Christmas Teaching Offers
If you are stuck for ideas for Christmas then our Teaching offer will be ideal.
This week's tip is carrying on with sloping lies from Chris.
Ball Below Your Feet
The big challenge from this lie is getting down to the ball and staying there through impact. The tendency is to pull up or move onto your toes, both of which lead to poor contact. You really have to squat down and lean your rear end into the slope to lower your centre of gravity; your weight should be on your heels (see the picture).
Because of this awkward squat position, body turn during the swing is restricted, so it's more of a hands-and-arms motion. The key swing thought is, maintain the flex in your knees; that will help you stay in your posture. Still, your swing will tend to be more up and down, which means less clubface rotation, so aim left to guard against missing to the right.
The 2015 Diaries are now in and can be collected from the Pro Shop.
The Clubhouse will be closed Christmas Day and Boxing Day, if you wish to play on these days then please ensure you get your clubs out of your locker by Christmas Eve. The course will however be open as normal, subject to the weather conditions.
We have a number of Centenary table mat sets still available so why not give a set as a Christmas gift to a friend or relative? They have great pictures of the course old and new, including our twinned club Etretat.
On a crisp Saturday the winner of the Stubby Stableford was James New with an amazing 40 points closely followed with 38 points by Aaron Richardson winning on a countback from Mike Andrew.
A record was set this weekend in the Winter Foursomes, Hockley's own Paul Mantell and Ben L'enfant won their match on the 23rd!! (5th extra hole). Let's hope they can make up for it and finish on the 14th in the next round!
Five Hockley pairs are now through to the Quarter finals on January 4th, the results can be found on the notice board in the foyer.
Winter league -
Due to the time scale in which the matches have to be played, the competition secretary is now allowing you to play in 3 balls and play 2 matches at the same time, if it will make it easy for you. Hope this helps.
Thanks
Adrian Nicol
Another beautiful day for the Capt/Pro match this week and what a comeback it was against two former captains (Steve Moore and Mike Eames). We were 4 down at one point then rallied back to pip them on the 18th. Our other match against Kay Walshe and Judie Lewis was also very close; they pushed us all the way to the 19th where we just managed to edge them. Each game was played in great spirit and both Robin and I enjoyed the company.
Please note this Friday is the final day to sign up for the Christmas lunch.
