Preferred lies With the current dry spells, the fairways are starting to crack from the soil and seed works carried out last week, and they are starting to germinate. With the cracks happening we are going to introduce preferred lies, as of Thursday, 6 August. When a player's ball lies in a part of the general area cut to fairway height or less, the player may take free relief once by placing the original ball or another ball in and playing it from this relief area: Reference Point: Spot of the original ball. Size of Relief Area Measured from Reference Point: 6 inches from the reference point, but with these limits: Limits on Location of Relief Area: Must not be nearer the hole than the reference point, and must be in the general area. In proceeding under this Local Rule, the player must choose a spot to place the ball and use the procedures for replacing a ball under Rules 14.2b(2) and 14.2e.

Another World Number 1 Jon Rahm’s stint at the top of the rankings lasted just a single week. All eyes were on Rory McIlroy, Brooks Koepka and Dustin Johnson to challenge the Spaniard for that top-of-the-world spot. But it was Justin Thomas, slipping under the radar, who reclaimed it with a win at the WGC-FedEx St. Jude Invitational. If Thomas had gone under the radar beforehand, he certainly didn’t on Sunday. A combination of pink trousers and outstanding golf saw the 27-year-old steal the show, coming from four shots behind overnight leader Brendon Todd, he overtook the likes of Koepka and Rickie Fowler with a 5-under 65 at TPC Southwind. With so many golfers battling out at the top of the rankings, we want to know how you think is most likely to make a Tiger-esque run and dominate the game in the next decade.
