Ladies Championship
This week saw the rearranged Ladies Championship on Sunday, 23 August. We had a good entry of 13 ladies entering the 36-hole Championship competition and 14 ladies entering the Fuchsia Bowl 18-hole medal. Despite the wind and the occasional shower, there were some excellent scores shot by the competitors. The winner of the Championship Cup by one-shot was Judie Lewis with a gross score of 165. Kay Walshe won the Runner Up Cup with a score of 166. Well done Judie and Kay. The winner of the Jubilee Cup (handicap 36 holes) was Kay Walshe with a nett score of 146. Rachel Grunwerg was the runner up with the same nett score of 146, losing on countback. Commiserations to Rachel on losing by such a narrow margin. The winner of Fuchsia Bowl was Helen Bailey with a magnificent nett score of 68, and the runner up was Helen Vidal Allen with a nett score of 74. Whilst we could not present the trophies, we completed the day by announcing the winners over a welcome drink in the clubhouse. I would like to thank all those ladies who took part in the competitions and hope that they enjoyed their day as much as I did. I would also like to thank Tracy Stubbington for her help in producing the lists of the winners so promptly at the end of the day.
Future Events – Dates for your Diaries Due to the inclement weather on Tuesday, 25 August, the Veteran’s Salver has been postponed to Thursday, 17 September. The Chilbolton Cup is now on Tuesday, 8 September 2020. This has been moved from Saturday, 5 September.
Daily Mail Foursomes We were not able to make the draw for the Daily Mail Foursomes Bowl on Sunday due to Covid-19 restrictions regarding handling the cards. However, Wendy and I did this at a later date and the draw will be posted in the ladies’ locker room and can be viewed on the website. Those involved will receive an email from Wendy.
Elkington Knife – one more needed! The date for entry to the Elkington Knife has been kept open until Friday, 28 August as we currently have 11 entrants. Please could at least one more sign up for this competition, then we can have 3 ‘boxes’ of 4 people. This would give everyone 3 matches, and allow for a fair playoff for the final trophy.
